Tommy Dorsey and his Orchestra – All Through The Night(Old Welsh Air)(1938 78 version)
vocal: Three Esquires and Edythe Wright
英古謡をスイング化。
2度目の引用。

arranged by Paul Weston
recorded in NYC May 12, 1938
Not the Cole Porter hit from “Anything Goes,” but the traditional 19th Century Welsh tune.
As for this posted version, the DAHR and Johnson-Shirley disagree on which ‘take’ was the one used for the Victor 78; and J&S states that the commonly available track from “The Complete Bluebird” LP series was an alternate. Rather than bothering to do an A/B comparison check, I just went here with the guaranteed-correct 78 release version.

The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra – Hooked On Classics(UK:1981/07/31, US:1981/09 stereo 45 single version)

arranged & conducted by Louis Clark
produced by Jeff Jarratt & Don Reedman
(debuted late’81) 1982 Pop Chart Peaks: Record World 9, Billboard & Cash Box 10 – A/C Peak: 8 – UK Peaks: 1 (MM), 2 (BMRB, NME)
The “Stars On 45” and “Hooked On Classics” releases were among the most notable successes which helped spur the early-1980s medley recording fad. This Top 10 single was an edit of the longer lead track from the first “Hooked On Classics” LP, conducted by arranger-musician Louis Clark, who was also known for his work with Electric Light Orchestra. A label error failed to include “1812 Overture,” which follows “March Of The Toreadors.”

* While the so-called “Official” UK singles chart history from this period utilizes data from only one of the three existing national singles charts (BMRB, as published in Music Week and in which this record did not reach the top), for historical reference our channel also credits as “#1 UK hit” any title which achieved that peak in one or more of the other two then-commonly-referenced charts (New Musical Express & Melody Maker).

Jackie Wilson – Night(1960/03)

Among Jackie’s all-time best-sellers, the melody originated with the familiar aria “My Heart At Thy Sweet Voice” from the Saint-Saens opera “Samson And Delilah.”
