危機的状況が続く東京電力福島第1原発で、1号機のほかに2、3号機でも、空だきされた燃料が高温で溶け落ちる「メルトダウン」が起き、圧力容器の底部が損傷している可能性が高まった。そのなかで最も不安なのは、猛毒のプルトニウムを生成する3号機。一時は336度まで温度が上昇するなど、溶け落ちた燃料が圧力容器を突き破って格納容器に漏れ出した恐れもあり、最悪の場合、再臨界の可能性も取りざたされている。

 元日本原子力研究所那珂研究所長の飯島勉・高度情報科学技術研究機構参与はこう分析する。
 「メルトダウンの直後は、炉内の構造物と混ざり合った状態で溶岩のようなドロドロの状態になっています。それを受け止める圧力容器は鋼鉄でできており、融点は1600度。2800度に達すると、溶ける核燃料を支えることができずに穴が空く。溶けた核燃料の一部が格納容器へと落ちたなら、底の溜まり水と反応して小規模な水蒸気爆発を起こしながら、外側が固体となって沈んでいるのでしょう」

 枝野幸男官房長官は17日夕の記者会見で、東京電力福島第1原発事故に関し、国際原子力機関(IAEA)の調査団の派遣を受け入れると発表した。期間は24日から来月2日までで、政府や東京電力の関係者から聞き取りを行うほか、第1原発も訪問する予定。

「車椅子の物理学者」として知られる英国の物理学者スティーブン・ホーキング博士(69)は、天国とは闇を恐れる人のおとぎ話にすぎないとし、死後の世界があるとの考えを否定した。16日付の英紙ガーディアンに掲載されたインタビューで述べた。
 ホーキング博士は「(人間の)脳について、部品が壊れた際に機能を止めるコンピューターと見なしている」とし、「壊れたコンピューターにとって天国も死後の世界もない。それらは闇を恐れる人のおとぎ話だ」と述べた。
 博士は21歳の時に筋萎縮性側索硬化症(ALS)という進行性の神経疾患と診断され、余命数年とされた。「自分は過去49年間にわたって若くして死ぬという可能性と共生してきた。死を恐れてはいないが、死に急いでもいない。まだまだやりたいことがある」と語った。
 また、人々はどのように生きるべきかとの問いに対し「自らの行動の価値を最大化するため努力すべき」と答えた。

科学的にいろんなことが解明されましたからね。
たとえば意識というものが肉体、なかんづく脳に依拠している といったことが明らかとなったことから、死後には個別性が成立しないと考えざるを得なくなりました。
私もそう思ってます。
ただ人情ということを考えて、お悔やみの言葉を口にしたりする。
個性は遺伝子の生殖で受け継がれていきますが、やはり意識というのは肉体が先にあってこそ。
さらにまた、生命という何か目に見えないエネルギーのようなものがあるわけじゃない。大正時代に「生命主義」などという思潮がサロンを席捲し、魂魄とか精神とか霊といったものを華麗に再定義した観がありましたが、近代的どころか実は前近代的粉飾でしかなかった。

One of two known unreleased demo versions of this epic tune. The other version entitled,’Stand By Him’ was recorded by a different vocalist, utilized the same melody of’Paradise’ with different lyrics and both versions. These two as well as the spectacular Ronettes recording of the tune were recorded at Hollywoods Gold Star Studios within months of eachother. The other artists to have recorded their versions include, the Shangri-las, Gogi Grant, the Supremes, Bette Midler and also Harry Nilsson. This demo version featuring the vocals of L.A. session singer Oma Heard who can be heard on a V.I.P. single along with singles issued as the Sweethearts, the Postalettes, the Darlings, and the Delicates.
