Other than the obvious hat-tip to Connie Francis”Lipstick On Your Collar’ on the intro of this record, that’s about all there is to document about it. Just who were the vocalists, the composers, arranger, producer/s and where was it recorded. Although issued in March 1963, it just may be that Domain Records exec’s bought the master from the east coast that had been sitting in the can for a couple of years already. The story will probably never be told……….

Jones and his City Slickers – Dragnet(1953/10)

Walter Schumann’s iconic ‘dum-da-dum-dum’ theme music is utilized here; but unlike the three successful “Dragnet”-inspired spoofs that Stan Freberg would record later in 1953, Spike’s effort is more of a “fun with sound effects” entry than an actual parody of Jack Webb’s wildly popular detective series. Though this was not a strong seller, it IS Spike Jones and should be of some interest to those of his fans who have never heard it. The flip-side was his tribute to the opera “Pal-Yat-Chee” with vocal by Homer & Jethro.

Bill Haley with Haley’s Comets – Crazy Man, Crazy(1953/04)

What may be condiered the first-ever really successful pop-rock’n roll single reached #12 on the national juke box charts and #15 sales. Though still featuring that steel guitar, Haley had changed his group’s name from the Saddlemen to the Comets and would soon be completing the transition from his Western Swing roots to the r&r sound that helped change popular music forever.

Roger Kahn and his Orchestra – Crazy Rhythm(1928 version)
vocal: Franklyn Baur

recorded in NYC April 12, 1928
RCA Victor chose to include a slower alternate take on their past LP compilations, but this post is the one that people purchased in 1928. Ben Bernie introduced the song that year in the short-lived stage musical “Here’s Howe,” which featured a score of otherwise forgotten tunes composed by Irving Caesar, Joseph Meyer, and bandleader Kahn.

Ben Bernie and His Hotel Roosevelt Orchestra – Crazy Rhythm(1928)
vocal: Ben Bernie and the trio

recorded in NYC April 6, 1928
Lively Bernie recording of this 1928 hit. “The Old Maestro” himself introduced the song that year in the short-lived stage musical “Here’s Howe,” which featured a score of otherwise forgotten tunes composed by Irving Caesar, Joseph Meyer, and bandleader Roger Wolfe Kahn. Based upon the number of 78 copies turned up by collectors over the years, it would appear that it was Kahn’s own version of “Crazy Rhythm” on Victor that outsold the competition
