Iconic New Orleans musician Fats Domino dead at 89

Legendary musician Fats Domino has died at the age of 89.
The “Blueberry Hill” hitmaker passed away at his home in New Orleans on Tuesday. His cause of death has not been revealed.
Domino, real name Antoine Domino Jr., was among the pioneers of rock’n’ roll music in the 1950s and 1960s and was known for hits including “Ain’t That a Shame” and “I’m Walkin’.”
He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986 and received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1987.
Domino, who played the piano, saxophone, electric guitar and drums, was also active in supporting relief efforts for the victims of Hurricane Katrina, which ravaged Louisiana and Alabama in 2005.
He last performed at Tipitina’s in New Orleans in 2007.

１７００年代初期まで、イングランド全土の学校は言葉をつづる際に「per se」というフレーズを頻繁に利用しました。「per se」というのは「本質的な」という意味を表すワードで、「A」や「I」など一字で意味を成す文字を読む際に利用されており、例えば当時の子どもたちが「I invite you（私はあなたを招待します）」というフレーズをつづる際、「Per se i、i、n、v、i、t、e……」といった具合に発声しながら文字を書いたそうです。これにより、最初に発声した「i」は「invite」という単語の一部ではなく、単体で意味を成す「I（私）」であることがよくわかるようになります。
それと同時に、「＆」は英語のアルファベットにおける２７番目の文字として教えられていました。学校で「Z」の次に来るアルファベットとして「＆」が教えられたことで、アルファベットを順番に読んでいく際は「X、Y、Z and per se and」と読まれていたそうです。この「and per se and」というフレーズがひとつの単語として使われるようになり、それ以降、「＆」は「アンパサンド」と呼ばれるようになったというわけ。その後、１８３７年までには「アンドパサンド」という単語として辞書に載るようにもなりました。

In a career spanning from 1944 at the age of 13 until 2014, three years before her death, Della Reese certainly had quite a broad and interesting life in show business. Discovered by famed gospel singer, Mahalia Jackson, Della Reese would go on to sign a recording contract with Jubilee Records in 1953 when she was 22 years old. While with the company she would issue six albums and about two dozen singles of which,’And That Reminds Me’ from 1957 would garner her a sizable hit. Della moved to RCA Victor in 1959 where shoe would remain until 1964. Her biggest hit with the label was the first one out of the chute entitled,’Don’t You Know’. The disc was a dramatic, over the top, and lavishly orchestrated production that would top the R&B chart, peak at #2 on Billboard’s Top 100 chart and sell over one million records. Keeping with the same larger than life formula, the follow-up,’Not One Minute More’ was another hit peaking at #16. The singles that followed branched off into big band, jazzy productions with a return back to the previous big ballad style on the tunes,’Everyday’, and the song presented here,’And Now’. Della Reese recorded for ABC Paramount from 1965 until signing with Avco Embassy in 1969. A couple of singles were issued on tiny independent labels in 1973 before Della’s final disc in 1977 for Chi-Town. All the while during her recording years, Della Reese appeared on many television variety shows and even had her own talk show in 1969. Focusing on acting at that point, she went on to appear in several motion pictures and many, many parts in television shows. It would be her role in the popular show,’Touched By An Angel’, which ran from 1994 until 2003 that would be what she was most known for and what introduced her long career to many new fans.

中にいると分からないのだが、外国人から観ると、日本人は人間らしい暮らしをしていないらしい。
「和をもって尊しとなす」とか「人類の進歩と調和」とか、お公家さんみたいなことを口にする割には、人物が小さいというか、了見が狭いというか、口と肚が違うというか。

その団塊世代こそが今の世の中を作ったといっても過言ではない。
衆を頼んで社会を改良出来たはずの彼らであったが、実際は軽蔑していたはずの父親世代の支配する旧態依然の構造に過剰適応していったわけで、おれなどは「何ですかこのザマは！」と文句の一つも言いたくなるのだ。

モノ作り大国として名高い日本。今も「日本製なら安全」という認識をもつ人々は世界中に数多くいます。それではなぜ、日本は「iPhone」のような革新的なものを生み出せなかったのでしょうか？

　ヴォン・ダッチと親しかったロスも、一九五九年ごろ、ついに自分自身のトレードマークと出会う。メイウッドのアポロという小さなレストランで、ミッキーマウスの先祖はどんな風体かという話で仲間と盛り上がっていたとき、ロスは突然筆記用具を手に取ると『蒸気船ウィリー（Steamboat Willie）』のころの初期のミッキーマウスをツンツンにとがらせ、それにオーバーオールを着せたグロテスクな太鼓腹のネズミを描き始めた。そしてしおれた胸元にラット・フィンクを短縮したＲ.Ｆ.というイニシャルを加えたのである（レース用語でフィンクとは、ルールを無視してズルする人間をさす）。

2022年5月6日、GoogleユーザーのPat Needham氏が「Googleドキュメントに『And. And. And. And. And.』を含む文字列を入力するとクラッシュしてしまう」というバグを報告しました。Needham氏はGoogle Chromeで複数のGoogleアカウントを切り替えてこのバグを検証し、すべてのアカウントで同様にバグが発生したと述べています。なお、このバグは大文字と小文字を区別するらしく、「and. and. And. and. And.」ではバグが起こらないこともNeedham氏は指摘しています。

また、「But. But. But. But. But.」でも同じバグが再現されたと報告するユーザーが現れたほか……
あるユーザーは「Also」「Therefore」「Anyway」「But」「Who」「Why」「Besides」「However」といった単語を同様に5回繰り返した場合でも、同様の問題が発生すると指摘しました。
