　第２次大戦下のフランス領モロッコを舞台にした古典的名作「カサブランカ」を初めて見たのは大学生の時。ハンフリー・ボガートが低音でささやく「君の瞳に乾杯」にドッキンとしたが、何より杯を合わせるヒロイン、イングリッド・バーグマンの凜（りん）とした美しさが心に残った。
　２０世紀を代表する大女優の一人。私生活では、家庭がある身でありながら報道写真家のロバート・キャパと恋に落ち、その後、既婚だったイタリア人監督のロベルト・ロッセリーニとも不倫の関係に陥るなどスキャンダルを巻き起こした。

第２次世界大戦時代の名作映画「カサブランカ」に出演していたフランス出身の女優マデリーン・ルボーさんが死去した。９２歳だった。カサブランカの主な出演者はこれで全員が鬼籍に入った。
カサブランカでルボーさんが演じたイヴォンヌは、ハンフリー・ボガート演じるリックに冷たくあしらわれる役柄。フランス国歌の「ラ・マルセイエーズ」が流れると、目に涙をためて「フランス万歳」と叫ぶ。
親類によると、ルボーさんは太ももを骨折し、スペインで今月１日に死去した。
１９２３年、フランス・オードセーヌ生まれ。カサブランカのほかに１９５０年の「黄金の籠」や、１９６３年のフェデリコ・フェリーニ監督作品「８　1/2」などの映画に出演した。
映画情報サイト「IMDB.com」によれば、カサブランカでルボーさんが演じた役は、ルボーさん本人の人生にも重なっていた。ルボーさんはナチス・ドイツに占領されたフランスから、当時の夫だったマルセル・ダリオさんと共に脱出していた。ダリオさんもカサブランカに出演している。

ポール・ヘンリードの演じるラズロは汎ヨーロッパ提唱者で、「ＥＵの父」と呼ばれるリヒャルト・クーデンホーフ・カレルギーを投影しているとする説がある。
リヒャルト・クーデンホーフ・カレルギーは１９２２年にフリーメイソンになった。

映画のテーマ曲『アズ・タイム・ゴーズ・バイ』は、音楽を担当したスタイナーの作曲ではなく、ハーマン・フップフェルド （Herman Hupfeld） がステージショーのために、１９３１年に作詞・作曲した古い流行歌を取り上げたものである。

With the great success of “Casablanca,” this old tune jumped to #1 on the weekly “Your Hit Parade” radio survey in the Spring of’43, but due to the ongoing’Recording Ban’ （musicians union strike） the only commercial 78s available to consumers at the time were reissues of two old 1931 recordings by the orchestras of Rudy Vallee and Jacques Renard. Though Dooley Wilson had performed it as’Sam’ in the film, he was unable to capitalize on the moment and had to wait until 10½ months after the movie opened to make this recording, shortly after Decca settled with the union.

Both of them sung by Dooley as ‘Sam’ in “Casablanca,” this and the A-side “As Time Goes By” （ • 1943/1946 Dooley Wilson – As Time Goe… ） were new studio versions which couldn’t be recorded until 10½ months after the movie opened, due to the ongoing AFM musicians union strike. But then the tracks sat on the Decca shelf for more than two years before this Specialty Series 78 was released commercially in early 1946. The identity of Wilson’s spoken partner on this recording is neither shown on the label nor listed in any of the various sources that I’ve consulted. Anyone?

When the throngs of “Casablanca” fans eagerly visited the music stores in 1943 to purchase a copy of “As Time Goes By,” their choices were limited to only dated-sounding versions recorded twelve years earlier when the tune had first been introduced. Because of the ongoing strike against the record companies by the musicians union （aka The Recording Ban）, no new recordings featuring union musicians were being made in early 1943. So Victor reissued a 1931 Rudy Vallee version, which now reached #2 on Billboard, and Brunswick reissued this Jacques Renard （#3 peak）.

Though the tune wouldn’t become a major mainstream standard until the wartime release of “Casablanca,” it had been a moderately successful song hit when it first appeared in the 1931 Broadway musical “Everybody’s Welcome.” This Selvin release was one of several versions available to record buyers at the time.

Rudy’s was the very first recorded version of “As Time Goes By.” While only a moderate song hit when it first appeared in the 1931 Broadway musical “Everybody’s Welcome,” it would zoom to the top of “Your Hit Parade” in the spring of 1943 due to its prominent placement in the box office favorite “Casablanca.” However, when eager record buyers converged on the music stores to purchase a copy, their choices were limited to only reissues of this and the 1931 Jacques Renard version due to the ongoing union strike against the record companies by the American Federation of Musicians （aka the ‘Recording Ban’）. No new recordings featuring union musicians were being made in early 1943, so the two “old” versions achieved much greater sales success than they had twelve years earlier. Vallee’s climbed as high as #2 on Billboard’s weekly record sales chart.
