東京電力福島第一原発で２９日、使用済み燃料プールや原子炉の冷却装置などで水漏れが相次いだ。現在確認できている所で計１４カ所。冷え込みで冷却装置の内部や流量計の辺りなどで水が凍結したためとみられる。プールや原子炉の冷却に影響はないという。
水漏れがあったのは、４号機の使用済み燃料プール代替冷却装置。午前９時３５分、プールの水の熱交換に使っている２次系の冷却水のポンプで警報が鳴って停止した。漏れた箇所の弁を閉じて約１時間半後に再起動した。漏れた水は近くのダムの水で放射性物質はほぼ含まれていない。プール水温は停止前後とも２１度で変わりはなかった。
午前９時５０分ごろには、非常用の原子炉注水ポンプの流量計のあたりから水漏れしているのを東電社員が見つけた。約５分後に水漏れを止めた。このポンプは非常用で注水に影響はないという。漏れた水は浄化処理後の水で、近くの側溝に流れ込んだ跡があるが、海に漏れた可能性は低いという。

国民生活センターは１３日、「公的介護保険を補ってくれる介護サービス？」と題し、６０歳代の女性から寄せられた相談を公表し、注意喚起を行った。
相談者は「知人から『国の介護保険で受けられる介護サービスには限りがある。入会時に約１００万円を一括で納めておけば、それ以上の介護サービスが必要になったとき、必要なだけ受けることができる』などと介護サービスの勧誘を受けた」という。

国際自動車連盟（FIA）が主催する世界耐久選手権（WEC）の一つで、耐久レースの最高峰、ル・マン２４時間（２０１２年６月１６～１７日、フランス）への参戦を表明しているトヨタ自動車が、レースに使用するマシン「TS030ハイブリッド」をお披露目した。

１２日午前５時４９分ごろ、東京都調布市で震度５弱の地震があった。埼玉、千葉、神奈川各県で震度４を記録し、宮城県から岐阜県までの広い範囲で揺れを観測した。気象庁によると、震源地は東京湾で、震源の深さは約５７キロ。マグニチュード（Ｍ）５・２と推定される。Ｍ７級の直下型地震が警戒される首都圏で起きた地震。専門家は「同じエリアでより強いＭ７・３の大地震が起きる危険がある」と注意を呼び掛けている。

先の島村氏は、「首都圏の地下は、かねてから国の防災会議でＭ７・３の巨大地震の発生のリスクが指摘されており、規模が小さかったのは不幸中の幸いだった。このエリアは、陸側の北米プレートと太平洋プレートに、南からフィリピン海プレートが入り込み、三つどもえになっている。それぞれのプレートが単独で地震を起こしたり、プレート同士の相互作用によって地震を起こすケースもある。そのため、巨大地震の発生リスクは非常に高い。今後もリスクは継続されると考えるべきだ」と警告している。
