Spike Jones and his City Slickers – All I Want For Christmas(Is My Two Front Teeth)(1948)
スパイク・ジョーンズと彼のシティ・スリッカーズ – 前歯のない子のクリスマス
vocal: George Rock

1st Recording Of “All I Want For Christmas (Is My Two Front Teeth)”
This perennial Christmas favorite topped the record charts and sold an easy million copies during the 1948 holiday season. It features the incongruous vocal delivery of Jones’ heftily-built trumpeter George Rock. City Slickers classic “William Tell Overture” (with Doodles Weaver) is also included in this 1948 collection

While their top-10 hit “Underneath The Arches” was still riding high, Scala and The Keynotes released this 1948 Christmas tune which peaked at #27 on Billboard best-sellers chart. See also the previously-posted version by Russ Morgan which came out the following year.

Bing Crosby with the Ken Darby Singers – White Christmas(1947)
orchestra conducted by John Scott Trotter

Though Bing’s 1942 recording of “White Christmas” was long cited as the top-selling track of all time, that is not quite accurate. The hugely popular original 78, issued in conjunction with the release of the 1942 movie “Holiday Inn,” had remained in circulation for only five years before the master was retired and replaced by this posted version….the very familiar-sounding 1947 Crosby remake. Henceforth it was only this slightly different re-do that was reissued regularly on 78, 45, LP, and cassette for the following several decades….and it’s the only commercially recorded Bing version of “White Christmas” that the majority of people have ever heard. Always a favorite around the holidays, this new pressing reached #3 on the best-sellers chart in December’47.
Other Crosby tunes in this collection include “A Gal In Calico” “How Soon” “You Do” “Tallahassee” and “Whiffenpoof Song.”
