Eddie Fisher – Christmas Eve In My Home Town(1951 version song only)
orchestra conducted by Lud Stiegmeir

recorded in Wiesbaden, Germany.
Co-written in 1951 by GI’s Stan Zabka and Don Upton, this holiday tune has become fairly well-known thru the years due to recordings by Kate Smith and Bobby Vinton, but it was first done by Eddie Fisher in this recording made in Germany. Also posted to the channel is this same version but with a spoken introduction by Eddie as is his later (1953) re-recording of the song with Hugo Winterhalter’s backing. For more background on the tune, here’s a short article: http://www.klove.com/news/2016/12/19/soldiers-christmas-song-celebrates-65th-anniversary/

Toni Harper – That’s What I Want For Christmas(1951)
with Buddy Cole and his Trio

In late 1947 at the age of 10, African-American child singer Harper had recorded her debut hit “Candy Store Blues.” Now at 14, she tackled this lyrically-hopeful Christmas tune, backed up by Buddy Cole’s group. A more serious treatment of the song was offered that year by young Lindsay Crosby (also posted).

Martha Tilton & Harry Babbitt and The Lyn Murray Orchestra and Chorus -‘Twas The Night Before Christmas(1951)
A・B面それぞれに Part1, Part2 を収録。

Adapting the Ken Darby choral arrangement made popular by Fred Waring, Harry, Martha, and Lyn Murray released this entertaining two-sided single in time for the 1951 holiday season. For a more traditional narrative treatment of Clement Clarke Moore’s famous poem, check out the 1942 Basil Rathbone recording.

Lindsay Crosby – That’s What I Want For Christmas(1951)
orchestra and chorus conducted by John Scott Trotter

Most of all, the youngest of Bing and Dixie Lee Crosby’s sons is wishing for a happy family life with his mom, dad, and three brothers (how sadly ironic…see the Wiki entry for Lindsay Crosby if you’re unfamiliar with the story). This tune, with somewhat different lyrics, is also posted by Toni Harper, as is Lindsay’s B-side “Dear Mister Santa Claus.”

A year after Bing and #1 son Gary had made their first successful duet recordings, Bing & Dixie Lee’s youngest, 13 year-old Lindsay Crosby recorded two solo sides for Decca’s holiday release schedule. See also his “That’s What I Want For Christmas.”

Leroy Anderson and his “Pops” Concert Orchestra – Sleigh Ride(1951 version)
鞭の音が表現されている。

This was Leroy Anderson’s first recording of his seasonal favorite (he also re-did it in stereo in 1959), but it was not the original hit version of the song. That honor went to Arthur Fiedler’s Boston Pops in 1949, prior to Anderson’s being awarded his own recording contract in 1950.

Four Aces featuring Al Alberts – There’s A Christmas Tree In Heaven(1951/11)
2度目の引用。

On the strength of the group’s breakthrough hit “(It’s No) Sin,” which had been issued on a small Philadelphia label (Victoria #101), the Four Aces had already been snatched up by Decca and were zooming up the charts with “Tell Me Why” about the time that Victoria #102 was released. Paired with the standard “There’s A Small Hotel” on the flip side, this rather downbeat holiday tune didn’t make much of an impact.
For those with critical ears, the noticeable pitch wobble at the end indicates a problem somewhere in Victoria’s production chain, not with the disc transfer for this posting.

Patti Page – The Christmas Song(1951/11)
orchestra conducted by Jack Rael

Les Paul and Mary Ford – Silent Night(1951/11/26)
