Out of Los Angeles, this tune labeled as by’The Soupy Sales Band’ is in reality L.A.’s cream of the crop session players who became known as’The Wrecking Crew’. Recorded on October 11, 1963 at Hollywood’s RCA Victor Studios at 1510 North Vine Street, arranger Jack Nitzsche conducts one of the shortest’Wall Of Sound’ holiday outings on vinyl clocking in at a brief 1:30. What’s interesting is that Nitzsche arranged this track at the same studio, with the same musicians, at the same point in time when he was along side Phil Spector on the infamous Philles Records Christmas Album a few blocks away at Gold Star Recording Studios. The A-side utilizes the same backing track without the lead melody on the Hammond organ and features the vocals of funny man, Soupy Sales under the title of’Santa Claus Is Surfin’ To Town’.
