Crown master 1131-2, rec. New York, January 1931.
Three unknown singers with Adrian Schubert’s Orchestra.
Another mystery group: Apart from the fact that they recorded a few sides for Crown in the early 1930s with Adrian Schubert, Jack Albin, and even solo, I can’t tell you anything about this trio. Any additional information would be welcome.

Jesters Quartet Manhattan Entertainers – Lady play your mandolin(1930)

Grey Gull master 411-1A, rec. New York, May 1930.
Four unknown singers with pseudonymous studio band.
A group absolutely nothing is known about except that there is no connection to the “other” Jesters that were still active in the 1940s. This might, in fact, also be a pseudonym. I suspect that the orchestra is actually led by Mike Mosiello and features the usual Grey Gull suspects such as Andy Sannella and Frank Banta. If you have details to share, any comment will be appreciated.
This is the first and only mint copy of a Grey Gull product I ever stumbled across, and it is quite incredible what a cheap sound this has for a 1930 recording. I guess they recorded over a telephone line.

At around the same time that Neil Diamond’s “E.T.”-inspired hit “Heartlight” was climbing the charts in the autumn of’82, Kenny’s LP “High Adventure” was released. It included this song, inspired by the writings from students at The Heartlight School in Canoga Park, CA. Kenny was accompanied on the track by the school’s youth choir.

Pop Chart Peaks: Billboard 5, Cash Box 10 – A/C Peak: 1 – UK Peak: 47 (BMRB)
As with Kenny Loggins’ later “Welcome To Heartlight”, this heartlight-themed hit by Neil was lyrically inspired by the blockbuster 1982 sci-fi film “E.T.” (aka “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial”). Co-written by him with famed married songwriters Burt Bacharach and Carole Bayer Sager, it served as the title song from Neil’s fifteenth studio album and was also his final Top 10 pop single.

The always-predictable ‘hate’ comments aside (about the song, the artist, the unsavory composer, or whatever), this Oscar and Grammy-winning movie theme was one enormously successful recording for the singer-author-actress daughter of Pat and Shirley Boone. No other track throughout the 1970s decade spent longer at #1 on any of the three national pop singles charts.
