清少納言は『なにもなにも、ちひさきものはみなうつくし』（何もかも、小さいものはみなかわいらしい）などと書いている。今でいう「Kawaii」の感覚はそのころから日本人にあったということだろう。
明治の文豪 夏目漱石は 神経を患った過去があったが、それかあらぬか『菫程な小さき人に生れたし』などと不思議な句を捻っている。
『侏儒の言葉』（しゅじゅのことば）は、芥川龍之介の箴言集・文学作品。題名の「侏儒」とは体の小さい人、また知識のない人の蔑称。また俳優の異称でもある。なお、１９３９年（昭和１４年）に軍人を侮辱しているという理由で次版改訂の処分を受けている。

総務省が「こどもの日」に合わせて４日発表した１５歳未満の子どもの推計人口（４月１日現在）は、前年より１５万人少ない１６０５万人で、１９８２年から３５年連続の減少となった。比較可能な５０年以降の統計で、過去最少を更新。政府や地方自治体は少子化対策に力を入れるが、少子化に歯止めがかからない実態が改めて浮き彫りになった。内訳は男子が８２２万人、女子が７８２万人。
総人口に占める子どもの割合は、前年比０．１ポイント減の１２．６％で４２年連続の低下、６５歳以上人口の割合（２７．０％）の半分を下回る。人口４０００万人以上の主要国と比べても、米国（１９．２％）、英国（１７．７％）、中国（１６．５％）、韓国（１４．３％）、ドイツ（１３．１％）などを下回る最低水準が続いている。

現代において、生活の長期の見通しが立たないのに子をもうけるのは、あまりに剣呑。一家心中にもなりかねない。
それもこれも、言ってしまえば、良き伝統であった日本型経営をぶっ壊した自称保守派のアホどものせい。
派遣社員制度の導入をゴリ押しした経団連企業などは日本から出て行ってほしい。
日本はたとえ小さくなっても、人道・商道に根ざしたまっとうな経世済民に還るべきだよ。
