４３人が犠牲となった長崎県の雲仙・普賢岳の大火砕流から３日で２６年となり、地元の島原市では、朝から多くの市民が慰霊碑に花を手向けて犠牲者を追悼しています。

英語語源は、動詞や名詞以外も面白いです。
例えば"a cat"などの"a"の元は古英語"ān"なので、「aは母音で始まる語の前に"an"になる」というよりも「母音で始まる語の前以外で"n"がとれはじめて、今に至る」のです。
