Bing Crosby – Blue Skies(1946)
orchestra conducted by John Scott Trotter

recorded July 18, 1946
Released in conjunction with Bing’s 1946 Paramount musical “Blue Skies” (co-starring Fred Astaire).

Johnny Long and his Orchestra – Blue Skies(1946)
vocal: Bob Houston and Ensemble

recorded February 4, 1946
Like his most famous recording of “In A Shanty In Old Shanty Town,” this Johnny Long favorite had been arranged several years previously by Bill Moore and featured a melodic variation by the ensemble that was directly modeled on a 1939 recording of the song by Slam Stewart’s group the Royal Rhythm Boys, of which Moore had been a member.
That earlier Long version (also posted) was recorded in 1941. In 1946, with the Bing Crosby-Fred Astaire film “Blue Skies” in theaters, Long recorded a similar-sounding version for release on the flipside of his “Shanty Town” remake, but re-arranged it by placing the Houston and ensemble vocal choruses back-to-back instead of separating them with an instrumental passage as he had done in the 1941 release.

Benny Goodman and his Orchestra – Blue Skies(1946 version)
vocal: Art Lund

recorded in NYC May 14, 1946
One of the new recordings of the 1927 Irving Berlin standard, revived due to the 1946 Bing Crosby-Fred Astaire movie “Blue Skies.”
Billboard peak: #9 (radio airplay chart)

Åke “Stan” Hasselgård – Blue Skies(1945)

recorded in Chicago September 15, 1934
This and the flip side “Talkin’ To Myself” were recorded during the first of two four-song sessions that Weems did for Columbia in-between his long associations with Victor/Bluebird and Decca. Both tunes were from the 1934 Universal film “Gift Of Gab,” with a song score by Con Conrad & Herb Magidson and an interesting cast lineup that included Edmund Lowe, Gloria Stuart, Ruth Etting, Phil Baker, Ethel Waters, Gene Austin, Chester Morris, Victor Moore, Andy Devine, the Gus Arnheim orchestra, and cameos by the studio’s horror stars Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi.
