空模様（４） – register movement 第四部

　＜曇りけり＞の主体を「空模様」と解釈すると「白く群がって先広がった卯の花は日の光を集めたかのように明るく輝いているが、卯の花曇りの空はどんよりと曇って何となく重苦しい空模様である」との意になる。卯の花が咲くころは、卯の花曇りとも卯の花月ともいわれる。安定しない天候の時期である。そんな中で卯の花だけが日の光を集めている。白くて明るさが際立っている情景を詠んだ句となる。陰暦四月のことを「卯の花月」、降り続く雨のことを「卯の花腐（くだ）し」、このころの曇り空を「卯の花曇り」という。

Along with the 1960s ballad “I Will” （Vic Dana and Dean Martin）, “Angels In The Sky’ was one of singer-songwriter Glasser’s most successful compositions, popularized on record by Tony Martin in 1954 and The Crew-Cuts in 1955-56. He re-recorded the title himself in 1958 for the Columbia label and spent the following couple of decades in various song publishing and record producer positions.
