北海道で猛吹雪

北海道:暴風雪 弟子屈町で最大瞬間風速31.2メートル
 発達した低気圧が千島近海に停滞し強い冬型の気圧配置になった影響で、北海道は2日も道東を中心に大荒れの天候が続いた。札幌管区気象台によると、北海道で降り始めの1月31日正午から2日午後3時までに降った雪の量は、羅臼町132センチ▽中標津空港57センチ▽斜里町ウトロ51センチ――など。最大瞬間風速は弟子屈町で2日午前6時47分に31.2メートルを観測した。

弟子屈町(てしかがちょう)は、北海道釧路総合振興局管内の川上郡にある町。
町名の由来はアイヌ語の「テシカ・カ」(岩盤の上)から。

よく考えると弟子屈だなんて、ずいぶんと無茶な宛て字です。
アイヌ語起源の町名・地名は難読が多いですね。
まぁ音(おん)を残そうとした姿勢は評価できますが。

 発達した低気圧の影響で北海道・知床半島の羅臼町は記録的な大雪に見舞われた。積雪量は2日正午に179センチに達し、気象庁の2005年の統計開始以来最高になった。除雪に自衛隊も出動した。
 同町によると町内2カ所の町営住宅(平屋、計54戸)に入る道路が雪でふさがれ、除雪車や重機も入れなくなった。道は2日朝、自衛隊に同町への災害派遣を要請。釧路駐屯地から50人の隊員が10台の車両で救援に向かった。同夕に到着、午後8時ごろまで雪かき作業を行った。
