This classic rock title had first been recorded in 1965 under the title “Someone To Love” by The Great Society, a pre-Airplane group which included Grace Slick, her husband Jerry, and brother-in-law Darby who composed the song.

This commercial recording of the song （mis-timed on the label by a full minute） was written by Grace Slick’s brother-in-law Darby who was also a member of the Great Society…as was husband Jerry Slick. Her famous Jefferson Airplane version （re-titled “Somebody To Love”） would be recorded in November 1966
There are also several YouTube posts of a longer’live’ Great Society track of the song which are sometimes labelled as the’original’ version, however it was recorded during a 1966 performance at the Matrix Club in San Francisco and later issued on the 1968 Columbia LP “Conspicious Only In Its Absence.”
