「長年の経験を活かしそのお子さん、そのお子さんにあったサポートをして活動しております」。死亡した男児を預かっていたとみられる「シッターズネット」（本部・横浜市）はサイトでこう銘打ち、客を募っていた。入会金は２万５千円で、年会費は１万５千円。午後７時半～翌午前７時半の夜間帯も受け入れていた。サイトでは「１時間１５００円と、お安い料金に設定させていただいております」と他業者との違いも強調していた。
ベビーシッターに国家資格はないが、公益社団法人「全国保育サービス協会」（東京都新宿区）は会員向けに独自の資格認定試験を設けている。約１万２千人が資格を得ているが、シッターズネットはそもそも協会の会員ではなかった。
サイトによると、シッターズネットは３人のスタッフで運営されており、男児らが発見されたとみられる埼玉県富士見市のマンションの一室に「みずほ台家庭保育室」を開業。児童福祉法では施設を運営する際、１日に預かる子供が６人以上の場合、自治体への届け出を義務付けているが、同施設については埼玉県や富士見市に届けはなかった。
ベビーシッターは公的機関の審査もなく、国も事業者や利用者の数について把握していない。同協会の長崎真由美事務局次長は「玉石混交の状態でシッターが数多く存在する。質は一定ではなくそれぞれの業者に委ねられているのが現状」と話す。

東京オリンピック直前に起きた、家政婦による高島忠夫の長男殺害事件が、ふと思い出された。
今でも欧米では子守り（ベビーシッター）として赤の他人を家に入れる例が多い。どう考えてもリスクが高いし、わざわざ犯罪を誘発しているかのごとくである。

というサイトが元々あって、
容疑者はその名称を無断借用し、自分のサイト
