Several who reported hearing the booms on Facebook said the sounds seemed to be coming from the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
Spokesmen from the U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Navy each said Thursday their units have not taken part in any activity that could produce loud booms in the Strait on Wednesday.
They said they had no knowledge of any event on the Strait that could explain the explosions.
The first report appears to have been placed at 2:40 p.m. Wednesday to Clallam County emergency dispatchers from a resident on Strait View Drive, east of Port Angeles, who reported several loud booms.
At the same time, Michelle Kaake heard two booms while in her home on O Street in west Port Angeles.
“It vibrated the floor and rattled windows,” Kaake said of the first boom.
The second boom came about five minutes later, she said.
Facebook postings told of people hearing the booms from Deer Park, in the foothills of the Olympic Mountains, to Joyce, about 15 miles west of Port Angeles.
The 129th EOD Company from Joint Base Lewis-McChord near Tacoma, which on Feb. 12 destroyed several pieces of naval ordnance that had washed ashore on the Dungeness National Wildlife Refuge – which was suspected to be from Canada – was not in the area and has received no calls for similar services in the Port Angeles area, said Joe Kubistek, base spokesman.

In the city of Spring Hill, Tenn., loud booms rang out through the night on Wednesday.
The mysterious noises could also be heard in Columbia, about 12 miles away, according to the Nashville Tennessean. And as they continued, social media blew up.
Authorities even sent out emergency crews to a local apartment complex where residents noticed the booms, Spring Hill 911 director Brandi Smith told the Tennessean.
But the sounds probably weren’t caused by anything truly terrifying, unless cold weather is frightening （which I guess it can be, sometimes）. They are believed to have been cryoseismic booms – a sound that occurs during small underground explosions that happen when water freezes and expands quickly.

Booms, it turns out. Big, mysterious booms that filled the sky from south Grand Pairie to Southlake on Tuesday afternoon. And while they may have been nothing more than building demolition, they made for a dramatic diversion from the cold weather.
Dogs howled, cats freaked out and Facebook feeds exploded about 4 p.m., when what sounded like a half-dozen distant bombs echoed around the suburbs.
In her north Irving dining room, Judy Howard had flashbacks to the city’s recent spate of earthquakes, which could cause booms when seismic waves collided.

CORAL GABLES （CBSMiami） – Mysterious tremors have been plaguing Coral Gables residents repeatedly since the start of February.
The quakes are strong enough to rattle a cup of coffee but not spill it. Yet, no one seems to have an answer.
“These windows went rattling. The cat ran into the other room,” said Gables resident Matt Meehan. “My first thought was earthquake.”
Meehan said the chandelier was swaying back and forth.
“We’re not on a fault line, so what in the world was it” he wondered.

FORT FISHER, N.C. — The sound rolls in off the ocean like an invisible tidal wave, washing over houses with enough force to rattle windows and startling people who look uneasily to the ground and to the sky for an explanation.
Boom. Rattle. Rattle boom. And it is over as quickly as it began.
The mysterious noises have been reported as far back as the 1850s.
Now, a Duke University seismologist hopes to find clues about the mystery sound’s origins as a side benefit from an earthquake research project.
Peter Malin, a seismology professor for 10 years, plans to monitor a sensor that has been placed deep in the ground at the Fort Fisher State Historic Site near Wilmington.
The sensor is intended to record minor seismic activity that might indicate when more significant quakes can be expected.
There is no explanation for the sounds, at least not one on which everyone agrees.

事の発端は、２００５年にまでさかのぼる。ミシガン州フリント近郊のマウントモリスで生活していたビリー・ジョー・ロウ氏の兄弟は、ビリー・ジョー氏が児童ポルノのコンテンツをインターネットでダウンロードしていることを警察に密告した。
州警察のデニス・ミルバーン氏が事件を担当することになったが、諸手続きの遅れで捜査は後回しにされてしまう。そして数年後になってコンピュータ押収令状の期限が迫っていることに気付いた警察は、慌てて逮捕状を発行し、ビリー氏の身柄拘束に動き始めた。
ところが警察はとんでもないヘマをやらかしてしまう。マウントモリスから１００マイル（およそ１６０ｋｍ）以上離れたアルビオンで暮らすビリー・ディーン・ロウ氏を容疑者と勘違いし、そのまま身柄を拘束してしまったのだ。確かに両氏はミドルネームを抜かせば同姓同名であり非常に紛らわしいが、警察が取り違えるとは呆れた話である。
連日に渡る尋問の後、人違いであることに気付いた警察はビリー・ディーン氏を釈放した。しかし、彼が社会復帰した時には、肉切会社から解雇通知が届いていたという。
幸い、事情を説明して職を取り戻すことは出来たが、当の警察は誤認逮捕こそ認めたものの一切謝罪しようとしなかった。そのため、人生最悪の屈辱を味わわされたビリー・ディーン氏は、ミシガン警察を相手に告訴に踏み切った。
ちなみに、真の容疑者であるビリー・ジョー氏は、時効により起訴を免れている。

驚くべきことには、外国では、罪を犯しても、認めず、謝らず、シラを切りとおすのが普通なのだそうだ。なんという不正直、なんという卑怯。まったく見下げ果てた根性ではないか。

それで思い出されるのは川崎河川敷中１殺害事件――。

父親は「殺害には無関係です」との声明を出したが、なぜそう断定できるのか根拠が示されてない。
もし犯人であることが立証されたら、この言い草は何だということにもなる。

川崎市の中学１年、上村遼太さんが犠牲となった殺人事件で衝撃の疑惑が浮上している。犯人グループに関わるとされる一人が上村さん殺害の様子を撮影して動画サイトに投稿、それを見た地元の仲間らがツイッターを通じて「一人死んだ」などと、やりとりしていたというのだ。ネット上には証拠画像も流出。やりとりは事件がまだ公になっていない段階で行われており、しかも上村さんの死亡推定時刻とも合致しているが…。

　疑惑は、犯人グループとの接点が確認されている少年Ｄが２月２０日午前２時３９分に「びーん」とツイートしたことで発覚。これに少年Ｅが「あれ？自殺に追い込ませた？」と問いかけ、再びＤが「一人死んだ」と説明している。
「びーん」とは６秒動画投稿サイト「Vine（ヴァイン）」を指しているものとみられ、実際、今回逮捕された中の一人がアカウントを持っていた（現在は削除）。つまりＤは「びーん」というツイートで、Vine上に何らかの動画が投稿されたことを周囲に告知。それを見たＥが「あれ？自殺に追い込ませた？」と尋ねたと推察される。
　また、「一人死んだ」のツイート時刻は１９日午前９時４０分となっているが、ツイッターの機能を使えば書き込み日時の変更は時間単位で可能。一連のやりとりを観察していた人物がＤのツイートに対し「お前のこと警察に通報しておくよ　２０１５年２月２０日午前２時４０分　○○○との会話の中で～」と指摘していることから、実際は２０日の午前２時４０分のツイートと考えられる。上村さんの死亡推定時刻の午前２時に極めて近い時間帯で、この段階では事件はまだ公になっていない。Ｄは騒ぎになるや、ツイッターをブロック（一部フォロワーを強制的に解除）した。上村さんが“殺される”ことを事前に察知していたかのような、ＤとＥの交信には不気味さが漂う。

さまざまな優遇制度がある。固定資産税や譲渡益の課税が低くなるとか、住宅取得のローン控除等である。
　最長３５年の住宅ローンもその１つ。今は銀行が主体だが、元は公的機関である住宅金融公庫（現住宅金融支援機構）が１９６０年代に始めた融資形態である。
　そのころ、住宅が高くなりすぎて１０年ローンでは買えなくなった。だったら３５年かけて返済すれば、庶民も何とか買えるだろうという発想。２５歳で借りると、定年になる６０歳でちょうど返済が完了する。仮に３５歳で借りても、６０歳の時に退職金を使って繰り上げ返済。それを前提に考えられているシステムだ。
　これは高度経済成長期の発想で危険きわまりない。
　今の時代、一体誰が３５年の安定収入を保証されているだろうか。公務員だけではないか。

　固定資産税の３倍くらいが年間家賃の目安になるだろうから、郊外の駅から徒歩５分の築２０年の３ＬＤＫが、月に５万円くらいで借りられるはず。今の４分の１程度くらいと考えればいい。
　そんな時に、３５年前に購入したマイホームが、やっと完全に自分のものになる。
　ちょっとだけ郊外の駅から徒歩５分ならまだいいだろうが、徒歩１５分なら借り手を探すのは簡単ではない。
　売ろうとしても築３５年の老朽マンションだから、せいぜい３００万円から５００万円。現に、郊外でバス利用の築３５年の中古マンションは、それくらいで取引されている。
　日本は、そういう社会に向かってヒタヒタと確実に進んでいる。

　逮捕された少年（１７）が実際に「Vine」にアカウントを持っていたことから、そこで実況中継されたことを指しているとの推測もされた。
　これに対し、ツイートした少年の１人は、「とんだ勘違い」と反論し、コメディ映画「Ｍｒ・ビーン カンヌで大迷惑？！」にやり取りのようなシーンがあったからだと説明した。それは、ビーンからの携帯電話がきっかけで男性が橋の上から飛び込むといったものだったという。
　しかし、少年らのツイッターには、非難の声が相次ぎ、現在は非公開設定になっている。

逮捕された３人の供述に くい違い があるのは、罪を逃れるため めいめいが自分に都合のいいウソをついてるからだろう。
実際、犯行後、あれこれ隠蔽工作してる形跡がある。

　リーダー格だった１８歳の少年の父親は２日、代理人の弁護士を通じてコメントを出した。
　この中で父親は「私が息子に確認したところ、息子は『今回の殺害には関与していない』という話をしておりました」と記している。その上で、少年が逮捕され、容疑を認めているとの報道を聞き「大変ショックを受けており、今はまだ言葉が見つかりません」と吐露した。
　少年に対しては「自分の知っていることは全て話し、真摯（しんし）に捜査に協力してほしいと伝えたい」としている。
　自身についても「警察には正直にお話しし、捜査に協力していく所存です」とした上で「ご迷惑をおかけして本当に申し訳ございません」と謝罪した。

　川崎市の河川敷で中学1年生の上村遼太さんが殺害された事件で、逮捕された少年のひとりが、テロ組織「IS（イスラーム国）」になぞらえ、自らのチームを「川崎国」と名乗っていたことが分かった。
「俺らは法律関係ない。自分たちのルールで動く。川崎国だ。逆らったら、生きたまま首を切るよ」
　今回逮捕された夜間高校に通う１８歳の高校生らは、地元で中高生を見つけると、こう凄んでいたという。

若くして殺された被害者も痛ましいが、思えば主犯Ａも哀れである。
両親から悪しき遺伝子を受け継いで、気がつけば自分は「ワル」だった。
肉体と精神は不可分。つまり肉体という牢獄からは一生出られない。
法的に罪を償ったとしても、死ぬまで主犯Ａであることには変わりがない。
まことに哀れである。
