１９６０～７０年代にベトナム戦争に派遣された韓国軍の元兵士約１万６千人が、米軍が使用した枯れ葉剤で健康被害を受けたとして米国の枯れ葉剤製造会社２社を相手に損害賠償を求めた訴訟で、韓国最高裁は１３日までに、原告３９人について健康被害との因果関係を認め計約４億６６００万ウォン（約４１００万円）の支払いを命じた。
韓国メディアは、枯れ葉剤被害をめぐり、製造会社の賠償責任を認めた確定判決は世界で初めてと伝えている。
米国では、元米国人兵士らが同様の訴訟で和解した例がある。米連邦最高裁は２００９年、「枯れ葉剤は人間を標的とした毒物として作られたものではない」として原告の元ベトナム人兵士らの請求を棄却したニューヨーク連邦高裁の判断を支持し、原告敗訴の判決を言い渡している。

【ハノイ時事】ベトナム中部クアンガイ省で最近、ベトナム戦争の爆撃から逃れ４０年以上もジャングルで暮らしていた父（８２）と息子（４２）が保護された。地元メディアが伝えた。
報道によると、ベトナム戦争中の１９７０年代初め、米軍による爆撃で妻や他の息子２人は死亡。生き残った父子は、密林に逃げ込んだ。
７日の発見当時、父子は樹皮の腰巻きしか身に着けず、地上約６メートルの木の上に作った小屋で生活。トウモロコシなど野菜のほか、野草を食いつないで生き延びていたという。父親は自力で歩けないほど衰弱していた。

ベトナム共産党筋によると、フランスの植民地支配からベトナムを解放し、ベトナム戦争を勝利に導いた英雄、ボー・グエン・ザップ将軍が４日、ハノイ市内の軍事病院で死去した。１０２歳だった。死因は明らかにされていない。
ザップ将軍は故ホー・チ・ミン国家主席の腹心として、第一次インドシナ戦争でゲリラ戦を駆使、１９５４年のディエンビエンフーの戦いでフランス軍を打ち破った。ベトナム戦争では南ベトナム解放民族戦線を指揮し、７５年のサイゴン（現ホーチミン）陥落で米軍にも勝利し、「赤いナポレオン」と呼ばれた。
７６年の南北ベトナム統一後、副首相兼国防相に就任。７８年には、国際的な非難を浴びたカンボジア侵攻に反対した。８０年に国防相、９１年に副首相を勇退した後も影響力を保ち、２００９年には中国主導での国内ボーキサイト採掘事業に環境や国防面で苦言を呈し、注目を集めた。

日本は米英仏蘭をはじめとする連合国軍に負けたが、ベトナムはフランスにもアメリカにも勝ったし、中国にも今のところ負けていない。
そういう部分ではベトナム人はスゴいし、この将軍がプロの軍人として高く評価されているのも頷ける。
ただし今は兵器のレベルがあまりに違うので、戦争になったらどうなるかは分からない。
ベトナム戦争でアメリカは枯葉剤を使い、米軍兵士も後遺症やガン発症に苦しんだ。
当然ベトナム人の被害は甚大であったが、アメリカは「枯葉剤は化学兵器ではない」として賠償請求を拒んだ。
『てめぇら人間じゃねぇ』とはこのことである。
アメリカの正義なんてしょせん嘘っぱちだ。
日本は米軍の基地を抱え、北爆においては前線基地のような役目を担ったにもかかわらず、ベトナム人の対日感情は現在かなり良い。
その良好な関係を更に発展させていくことを我々は考えていかねばならないだろう。

The first US nurses arrived in Vietnam in April 1956, attached to the US Military Assistant Advisory Group, set-up under the President Eisenhower administration, to train South Vietnamese. Between 1962 and 1973, over 5000 US nurses served in Vietnam. From 1965, as US forces in Vietnam increased, and thus casualties, a shortage of nurses developed, which led to this army recruitment campaign. The number of nurses reached its peak in 1968, when 900 served. In total, seven nurses died, and two officers attached to the Corps. The lyrics largely sought to appeal to the nurses through stirring patriotic emotions. By going to Vietnam, the nurses could be where “are heroes land, and the flag so proudly waves”. They could look after the “men who the country love”, and gain a “share” of “their glorious goal” – and thus receive a degree of personal satisfaction / achievement. It also promoted the idea of being “where the action is” – that going to Vietnam would be an adventure.

アメリカはベトナム戦争に敗れています。その原因のひとつとされているのが、「マクナマラの誤謬(ごびゅう)」です。「マクナマラの誤謬」はベトナム戦争時に国防長官を務めていたロバート・マクナマラにちなんで名づけられた、「定量的観測のみに基づいて決断を下し、他のすべての要素を無視すること」です。
ベトナム戦争当時、国防長官を務めていたマクナマラは「科学的管理法」で知られるフレデリック・テイラーの下で確立された科学的測定方法を学んだという人物。この経験に基づき、マクナマラは定量的指標を用いてベトナム戦争に勝つことができると考えました。
具体的には、マクナマラは「アメリカ兵の死亡数と敵兵の死亡数の比率」に着目し、「アメリカ兵の死者数よりも多く敵兵が死亡している限り、軍は勝利への道を進んでいる」と判断したわけです。しかし、マクナマラは戦争が両軍だけでなく関係国家の民間人も関与していることを考慮していませんでした。マクナマラは「測定できない物を管理することはできない」という有名なビジネスのフレーズを用い、自身の考えが正しいものであり、死者数以外の定量化できない指標は「戦争の勝敗とは無関係」と主張し、考察から除外しました。

韓国のソウル中央地裁が先週、ベトナム戦争での韓国軍による民間人虐殺について同国政府の責任を認める判決を出したのを受け、李鍾燮（イ・ジョンソプ国防相は１７日、民間人虐殺は「一切なかった」と主張し、上訴する意向を示した。
原告のベトナム人女性は、韓国海兵隊が１９６８年２月に民間人約７０人を殺害したとして提訴。地裁は、韓国軍が加害者だと証明するのは困難だとの政府側の主張を退け、政府に約３０００万ウォン（約３１０万円）の賠償の支払いを命じた。
しかし、李氏は議会の委員会で、国防省は「韓国兵による虐殺は一切なかった」と確信していると主張。判決を不服として上訴する意向を示した。
