Ben Bernie and His Hotel Roosevelt Orchestra – Cherie, I Love You(Cherie, je t’aime)(1926)
with vocal trio

The song was revived in 1958 as a medium-sized ballad hit for Pat Boone. For the also-posted Bernie flip side “Reaching For The Moon,”
Paul Whiteman and his Orchestra – I Love You(1923)
Here was the most successful song hit from the popular Broadway musical farce “Little Jessie James” (385 performances). For an enlightening movie clip, check out the first minute or so of this scene from the 1953 war drama “Stalag 17” (Bill Holden’s Oscar-winner) in which you see and hear this very song being performed by POW Ross Bagdasarian (aka David Seville)

Elsie Baker – I Love You Truly(1912)
Remember when Bert & Ernie sang this for newlyweds George & Mary Bailey in “It’s A Wonderful Life”? The long-time wedding song favorite, published in 1901, was one of many popular releases by actress and prolific recording artist Elsie Baker, who could still be spotted in various uncredited TV acting appearances during the 1950s and ’60s.

(Repost) I Love You(The NBC Chimes Song) by ??

—————————————————–
Whose voice, who’s conducting, who wrote it, and when, and for what purpose? And no, that’s not Garrett Morris singing (see below).
With apologies for the skip at the 1:39 mark (present in the original damaged audio source), enjoy this moderately clean restoration of the engaging “mystery recording” inspired by the G-E-C-note NBC Chime logo and (I’m guessing) a product of the NBC Radio Network itself.
How old is it? When I downloaded the source audio for this post from Usenet back in 1999, the original poster’s description stated that it had been recorded in 1938 and that he had extracted his copy from the tape of an NBC Radio retrospective that had aired during the late 1960s. No additional information or confirmation was forthcoming.
Both the arrangement and the high fidelity sound quality do have that late-1930s electrical transcription feel about them. Of course it might be suggested by some that this piece was actually recorded in a later decade and given a deliberately “retro” type of sound (much as Howard Shore, Garrett Morris, and the “Saturday Night Live” cast did with the tune when they resurrected it so delightfully for the opening segment of Season 4, Program 1, in October 1978).
Maybe 10 or 12 years ago I was surprised to hear a brief instrumental passage from the same melody being used as newly-recorded bumper music into a commercial break on an NBC-TV retrospective. Subsequent inquiries by me to an NBC website and to an individual with past musical connections to the network elicited no response; comments and questions posted by others to various online websites have AFAIK also led nowhere; so perhaps one of you can step up and provide some details concerning the true origin of the song…and of this specific recorded version.
Thanks!
