The Beatles – Christmas Record(1963)

the beatles xmas recording on October 17 1963 and released on December 6 1963
The first Christmas recording from the Beatles featured several renditions of the traditional carol “Good King Wenceslas” and individual messages from the four, ending with a closing chorus of “Ricky the Red-Nosed Ringo”.[1] This offering, as well as 1964’s, appears to be largely scripted. An edited version of this recording was sent to members of the Beatles’ American fan club in December 1964. The recording was also included as an unlockable bonus in the video game The Beatles: Rock Band and was made available as a free download from the iTunes Music Store between December 23, 2010, and January 9, 2011.

June Christy – Christmas Heart
from the album “This Time Of Year”(1961)

In January 1961 there were three recording sessions held in studio’A’ at the Capitol Tower in Hollywood that would ultimately provide a set of ten wonderful and new tunes composed by Connie Pearce and Arnold Miller for a’holiday’ release later in the year. For the Bill Miller production, the studio was stuffed with 34 musicians playing the lushly arranged charts provided by conductor, Pete Rugolo and the lead vocal was by June Christy. The concept of a winter/holiday album featuring a collection of entirely original songs was completely new at the time and the Capitol album,’June Christy – This Time Of The Year’, is a stellar example of absolute top notch music at its finest. Shamefully, not one of the ten cuts was issued as a single which left the LP with a limited range of promotion. The passing of 60 years however, has earned the album many accolades along with the digital release of selected tracks as well as the album in its entirety. Certainly one of the stand out cuts worthy of single release is the first song on side’A’ which is featured here entitled,’Christmas Heart’.
