The Chantrellines – Hold My Hand, Hold My Heart
from the album Various “That Thing You Do! – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack”(1996)

From the soundtrack of the hit 1996 motion picture,’That Thing You Do’, a stand out original tune entitled,’Hold My Hand, Hold My Heart’. Performed by Kennya Ramsey, Julie Harkness, and Darlene Dillinger as the fictional girl group christened the Chantrellines, the musical production was an impressive homage to Phil Spector’s 1960’s’Wall Of Sound’ works with the Ronettes, Crystals and Darlene Love. Composed by Gary Goetzman, Mike Piccirillo and Tom Hanks who also wrote, directed and appeared in the film, the Chantrellines performance was only given a pitiful 37 seconds of screen time but it most certainly made an big impact. The passing of 27 years has placed the song at a lofty place among aficionados of classic 1960’s girl group music.
*Thank you to Murphy Jaxson for uploading the Chantrellines scene from’That Thing You Do’.

(Unreleased Gold Star Recording Studios acetate) This dusty acetate was discovered by Jana O’Hara in October 2020 while sorting through her mothers musical artifacts. It features the vocals of her mother, Charlotte O’Hara singing an unknown composition by Jane McNealy entitled,’Hold Me In Your Arms Again’ (the label does not include’Again’ in the title). In what appears to be a finished recording rather than a sparsely arranged demo version, it along with the flip side track entitled’Give Me All Your Love’ which clocks in at a mere 1:33, were never issued. Charlotte had been a constant fixture in the L.A. music scene in the 1960’s and early 1970’s recording many demo recordings, backgrounds sessions and also recording under her own name as well as Bonnie and The Treasures, Bonnie, Bonnie Graham, Bonnie & Nita, Cherry Blossom and Shari Lee.

シングル “There Was A Night On The Water” のB面。

Recorded in the summer of 1964 at Bradley Recording Studios in Nashville, this disc was one of six Columbia singles issued in the United States by then 15 year old Canadian Songstress, Sandy Selsie (her last two singles were credited to’Sandy And The Sophomores’ and in her native Canada, one final Columbia disc was released in 1965 entitled,’That’s The Way It Happens’/’I Wish That I Could Fall In Love Today’). No expense was wasted in the quality of Miss Selsie’s recordings which featured Nashville’s cream of the crop musicians known as, the’A-Team’ and for this session, the background vocals were provided by the Avons who along with issuing their own singles, they also recorded under fictitious group names. Produced by Don Law and Frank Jones, the Smokey Robinson classic,’You Got A Hold On Me’, is an absolute, top notch, slick slice of teen Girl Pop.

Treasures’Pete Anders’ – Hold Me Tight(1964)
オリジナルはビートルズ。
曲は 1:31 から。

An early throw away tune entitled,’Hold Me Tight’ by the legendary John Lennon and Paul McCartney was given the’Wall Of Sound’ treatment by producer, Phil Spector with the vocals of Pete Anders and Vini Poncia. The duo had been kicking around in the east coast music biz since 1957 initially singing in the group, the Videls. They found that they worked together well composing songs which led to them acquiring an office at the Brill Building in New York City where they pitched their songs. Phil Spector heard some of their work and the three began writing together. Some wonderful things were recorded by the Ronettes, Darlene Love and the Lovelites as well as the lone’Treasures’ recording. Anders and Poncia eventually moved on forming a group, the Tradewinds which garnered some decent record sales with the then newly formed, Red Bird label. The two continued through the decades composing, performing and recording individually until Pete Anders sadly passed away at the age of 74 in 2016.
