Regarded as Nashville royalty in relation to the’Nashville Sound’ of the mid 1950’s to the mid 1960’s, the voices of Anita Kerr and her vocal group, the Anita Kerr Singers /Quartet, graced hundreds of recordings within that time period both as background vocalists as well as their own recordings. In 1960, producer/composer, Buddy Killen utilized Anita & Company to provide the vocal track to a self penned tune entitled,’Forever’ and issued the song on the University label credited to the Little Dippers. There were three singles that year on that label by the fictional group and also a wonderful instrumental rarity also on University by the Carnations entitled,’Wing And A Prayer’ featuring the Anita Kerr Singers. Fast forward four years and many, many sessions later, in 1964 Buddy Killen resurrected the Little Dippers name for a one disc deal with Dot Records. The Jim Reeves and Hank Locklin ballad,’For Just A Little While Tonight’ was the plug side that featured the voices of Anita Kerr and her behind-the-scene singers; tenor – Gil Wright （1930 – April 30, 2017）, baritone – Louis Nunley （October 15, 1931 – October 26, 2012）, alto – Dorothy “Dottie” Dillard （August 3, 1923 – May 6, 2015）. The flip side,’Sails’ appears to have other female voices in the foreground; more than likely that of Margie Singleton and Millie Kirkham. If Anita and Dottie are actually on the recording then they are somewhere back in the mix.
By the time 1965 rolled around, it was splitsville for Anita as she left Nashville for Hollywood and set up a new quartet there for a new and successful chapter in her musical career. As of July 2022, 94 year old Anita Kerr is the only surviving member of her original Nashville quartet.

Piano duo Arthur Ferrante and Louis Teicher began 1961 with their all-time best-seller “Exodus” and closed out the year with this flashy top-10 version of the familiar song hit from “West Side Story,” which was drawing big movie crowds at the time and would win the’Best Picture’ Oscar the following spring.
