Gerry Goffin, a prolific and multi-dimensional lyricist who with his then-wife and collaborator Carole King wrote such hits as Will You Love Me Tomorrow and The Loco-Motion, died early Thursday at his home in Los Angeles. He was 75.
His wife, Michelle Goffin, confirmed his passing in a statmenet.
Goffin, who married King in 1959 while they were in their teens, penned more than 50 top 40 hits, including Pleasant Valley Sunday for the Monkees, Crying in the Rain by the Everly Brothers, Some Kind of Wonderful and On Broadway for the Drifters and Take Good Care of My Baby by Bobby Vee.
Goffin was able to pen jokey lyrics or achingly sad ones, and he did it for solo artists and multiple voices.
King and Goffin divorced in 1968, but Goffin kept churning out international hits, including Savin’ All My Love for You for Whitney Houston.
Goffin and King were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1987 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame three years later.

Lyricist Gerry Goffin, who cowrote the hits “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow,” “The Loco-Motion” and “（You Make Me Feel Like） A Natural Woman” with his ex-wife Carole King, has died in his home in Los Angeles on Wednesday of natural causes. He was 75. His wife, Michele Goffin, reported his death, according to The Associated Press.

In the 1960s, before the Beatles made singer-songwriters fashionable, few people cared who wrote the songs they loved. The composers’ names were just part of the small print on a 45 r.p.m. disc. And if people know the writer behind such girl-group classics as “Will You Love Me Tomorrow,” “One Fine Day” and “I’m Into Something Good,” or The Drifters’ “Up on the Roof” or Aretha Franklin’s “（You Make Me Feel Like） A Natural Woman,” it’s probably because their composer, Carole King, eventually became a pop star — permanent brand for her songs about love, longing and romantic renewal.

キングさんにとってゴフィンさんは初恋の人だったという。
キングさんは声明で「彼は私の人生そして世界に深い衝撃を与えた。ジェリーはいい人であるとともにすばらしい力の持ち主で、彼の書いた詩や創造的な影響力は今後何世代もにわたって人々の心を動かすだろう」と述べている。
またキングさんは「彼の詩は、多くの人々が感じていながら言い表すすべを知らなかった思いを表現していた」と語った。

An obscure and quite pricey recording among Northern Soul collectors, this Irving Martin production is the first of two known discs recorded by Gary Bell on CBS Records in the United Kingdom. Issued in July 1966, it is a cover of the Ronettes recording,’Is This What I Get For Loving You’, issued in the USA in May 1965. The Des Champ arrangement on Gary’s version is a force to be reckoned with. An echo drenched, bongo infused’Wall Of Sound’ anthem that while Gary gave a convincing vocal delivery, these ears imagine that the powerful track would have been a notch above had Madeline Bell, P.P. Arnold or Kiki Dee been given the opportunity to lay down their voice over the dense backing track. The flip side,’To Keep You’, is a Gary Bell original and quite good that is may have done well on it’s own as an intended A-side.

日本語表記がいつのまにやらジェリー・ゴフィンになっていた。むかしはゲーリー・ゴーフィンだったので、なんかピンと来ない。
ピンと来ないといえば英語が分からないおれには詞の意味やニュアンスが理解できないため、好き嫌いはもっぱらメロディ中心となる。
ゴーフィン＝キングのコンビの作には好きなものがたくさんある。
