Josephine Sunday – Blue Moon(1962)
シングル “Heaven” のB面。

Here we have the only known single issued on the Tacoma, Washington based Hemlock Records. This ultra-rare slab of vinyl is the first recording by then fourteen year old, Miss Josephine Sunday Visaya who is also credited as the composer on the A-side entitled,’Heaven’ which is is in the style of’Angel Baby’ by Rosie and the Originals. The B-side is a just over two minute version of the American Songbook composition by Richard Rogers and Lorenz Hart,’Blue Moon’. Known as’Sunday’, she would have only a handful of recordings in the 1960’s but she most certainly did make an impressive mark within the Hollywood music scene. Not only was she exotic, easy on the eyes and had a sincere, bubbly and approachable personality, she did record some exceptional girl-pop material. Between December 1961 and July 1967, Sunday would have only one release each over five record labels; Hemlock, Birthstone, Pinnacle, Tower and Sidewalk. There is one other single attributed to Birthstone,’Lipstick Twist’ b/w’I Love You’ which has not surfaced and may be ridiculously rare or might not even exist. The last single on Sidewalk was credited to’Sunday and the Menn’. In 1965 during the peak of her recording career, she would perform on Los Angeles based TV music shows such as American Bandstand, Shivaree and 9th Street West as well as stage performing. Her manager was George Sherlock who also managed the Rolling Stones and it was he who suggested to Sunday that she should consider persuing a career in teaching which is exactly what she ultimately decided to do. She moved from Hollywood to Orange County and attended California State University Long Beach where she graduated as a Music Major and then went on to receive her teaching credential. Known as Sunday Heppner, she became an admired and emulated teaching professional who created instruction methods and wrote books that have been implemented and utilized successfully by many teachers for over 30 years.
