Hello world!

Lolipop!

●Link Manager

Mary Saenz – He Didn’t Even Say Hello(1963)

Out of Los Angeles, the debut single for Miss Mary Saenz. A Tucson, Arizona native, Mary migrated to Hollywood with her boyfriend/manager, Tom Lane and within a few months, she recorded this fine pop disc for Era Records entitled’He Didn’t Even Say Hello’ issued in late October 1963. Composed by Ron Heiss & Tex Hughes, the session was held at Hollywood’s Gold Star Studios with a believed to be uncredited arrangement by Jack Nitzsche. It’s an under two minute sampling of some tasty Girly sounds featuring the Blossoms on background vocals.’He Didn’t Even Say Hello’ would be later covered by the Impacs in 1964 and issued as a single on King Records.
The following year Mary signed with Dot records for a short run of two singles. Tom Lane hooked up with songwriter, Buddy Wayne who furnished Mary with the four sides she waxed with Dot. The first from March 1964,’I Waited’ backed with’Let Me Be Your Baby’ and the follow-up from June 1964, the finger-snappy,’I Have Something You Can’t Get’ backed with the dreamy,’My Three Friends’. At this point in time, Buddy Wayne brought Mary to the attention of songwriting/producing pal, Gary Paxton, who was hired to supervise her next single issued on Tom Lane’s Big Ben label. The tunes were both Buddy Wayne compositions,’Would She Do That For You’ backed with’I Think It’s You’. Paxton took Wayne’s mediocre demo of’Would She Do That For You’ and transformed it into an on-fire, drum and hand-clap stuffed dance floor filler. Recorded in December 1964 and issued in February 1965 the hip-shaking dance number with Mary’s girly lead vocals riding on top would be the last of four singles waxed by Miss Saenz. A fantastic performance that although promoted in print and on television, the record failed to break nationally. A few months later in November of 1965, Miss Saenz worked with Paxton for one last session held at the Capitol Tower to record the tunes,’It’s Too Late Now’ and’My Kind Of Boy’. These two unreleased tracks would ultimately be the finest Mary would ever record.

As stereo singles began to appear more frequently in stores (along with the standard mono 45s), this Doors release was one of the earliest major hits not to be commonly issued on a mono 45 single. But here’s the mono mix that was distributed to radio DJ’s and was frequently heard on the popular AM Top-40 stations at the time. Also posted is the store-bought compatible stereo/mono 45 version
