Moroccan police Thursday escorted from its waters a small yacht carrying women’s rights activists claiming to be able to perform abortions on board, after anti-abortion protesters jeered them on land.
The Dutch group Women on Waves sailed the boat around the northern Moroccan harbor with banners advertising an information hotline about abortion, which is illegal in most cases in this North African country.
A day earlier, the group had said that a ship that can provide “safe, legal, medical abortions” up until 6.5 weeks of pregnancy was on its way from the Netherlands. Medical professionals have traveled before to European nations to raise awareness; the group’s founder said that abortions had been performed aboard ship in international waters off of Poland.

女性に人工妊娠中絶手術を受けさせる目的でモロッコに入港しようとした船が、港への入港を阻まれ、海軍の先導で出航させられた。同船を運航する団体「ウィミン・オン・ウェーブ」の活動家が明らかにした。
モロッコでは人工妊娠中絶が禁止されており、同国厚生相は、同船の入港や、非居住の医師による処置は許可しないとの声明を発表している。
ウィミン・オン・ウェーブはオランダの医師が１９９９年に設立した団体。中絶が禁止されている国の女性を船に乗せて国際水域に行き、そこで中絶手術を行っている。
しかしモロッコでは船内を捜索され、出航を命じられたという。港では激しい抗議活動も展開され、警察も出動した。同船は近海にとどまり、次の戦略を検討するとしている。
同船に乗船している産婦人科医は、モロッコでは不法な妊娠中絶手術のために年間約９０人の女性が死亡していると話し、安全な中絶手術を受けられるようにしなければならないと訴えている。
同船はこれまでにもアイルランド、ポーランド、ポルトガル、スペインを訪問しているが、イスラム教国で中絶手術の提供を試みたのは初めてだった。

ヒト特有の病気とされるアルツハイマー病とよく似た脳内の変化が、長崎県・対馬だけに生息する国の天然記念物、ツシマヤマネコでも起きることが、東京大などの研究で分かった。０８年には動物園で死んだチーター２頭でも同様の変化が見つかっているが、イヌやサルからは見つかっていない。研究グループの中山裕之・東大教授（獣医病理学）は「ネコ科は特殊な病気の進化をたどった可能性があり、家猫でも調べたい」と話している。
認知症の原因となるアルツハイマー病は、アミロイドという物質が脳に蓄積することで脳内に「老人斑」と「神経原線維変化」という二つの変化が表れる。研究グループは、死んだツシマヤマネコ１４頭（生後３日～１５歳以上）の脳を調査。６頭にアミロイド蓄積があり、うち５頭に神経原線維変化が見られた。一方で、老人斑は見つからなかった。
論文は、３日付の米科学誌プロスワンに掲載された。

How the Beatles’ Love Me Do began the transformation of British music
Fifty years ago a little-known band released a single that, while far from their greatest, heralded the start of a legendary era
Philip NormanIn September 1962, the Beatles went into EMI’s Abbey Road studios in north London to record their first single. The A-side was Love Me Do, one of the least original in John Lennon and Paul McCartney’s burgeoning songbook. Through it ran a harmonica riff played by Lennon and shamelessly cribbed from Bruce Channel’s recent hit, Hey Baby. The lyrics were rudimentary: “Love, love me do … you know I love you … I’ll always be true.” No one then recognised a sound with power to change the world.

Channel toured Europe and was supported at one gig by The Beatles, who were then still unknown. John Lennon, who had “Hey! Baby” on his jukebox, was fascinated by McClinton’s harmonica. A popular urban legend has it that Lennon was taught to play harmonica by McClinton, but by that time, Lennon had already been playing the instrument live for some time. The harmonica break in “Hey! Baby” inspired Lennon’s playing on The Beatles’ first single, 1962’s “Love Me Do”, as well as later Beatles records, and the harmonica break on Frank Ifield’s “I Remember You.”
The key to the appeal of “Hey! Baby” is the sustained first note, with a rhythmic shuffle in the background.
