In the summer of’31 Kate recorded her first two versions of that famous theme. Ben Selvin led a six-piece combo accompanying her on this Columbia release, while a session six weeks earlier had produced the track issued on Columbia’s dime store labels billed as Kate Smith and her Swanee Music.
