http://sankei.jp.msn.com/world/europe/100927/erp1009270957001-n1.htm

Dionne Warwick, Dee Dee Warwick & Cissy Houston combined for the vocal on this first treatment of the song, top-credited to jazz-pop trombonist Winding, former player in the Benny Goodman and Stan Kenton bands who had released the hit instrumental “More” earlier in 1963 and was best-remembered in some jazz circles for his trombone duet recordings with J. J. Johnson. Jimmy Norman wrote the additional lyrics that were included on the subsequent releases by Irma Thomas and The Rolling Stones

(Time Is On My Side)は、ジェリー・ラゴヴォイが「ノーマン・ミード」(Norman Meade)の変名を用い作曲した楽曲。

Helen Forrest – Time Waits For No One(1944/05)
orchestra conducted by Camarata

Following her years with the Harry James band, Helen had her best-selling recording as a solo performer with this ballad from the film “Shine On Harvest Moon.” It reached #2 on Billboard and was joined that year by three other top-5 hits that featured her singing with Dick Haymes. See also the Johnny Long version of “Time Waits For No One.”

Guy Lombardo and his Royal Canadians – Time On My Hands(1944)
vocal: Skip Nelson
recorded in NYC January 7, 1944

Wayne King & his Orchestra – Time Was(1941)
vocal: Buddy Clark

recorded June 21, 1941
In contrast to the more swinging presentation of Jimmy Dorsey’s best-selling version of “Time Was” (original Spanish title “Duerme”), here we have a beautifully melancholy arrangement featuring King’s soprano sax and Clark’s emotional reading. At the time, Buddy was a regular on King’s “Lady Esther Serenade” radio program, but due to his own recording contract with OKeh records, he was not identified by name on this Wayne King label.

Jimmy Dorsey and his Orchestra – Time Was(Duerme)(1941)
vocal: Bob Eberly and Helen O’Connell

“Time Was” reached #4 on “Your Hit Parade,” and this top-10 charted best-seller is one of thirteen 1941 Dorsey hits in the collection (a very, very good year for Tommy’s older brother).

Ray Noble and his Orchestra – Marching Along With Time(1938)
vocal: Tony Martin
