The Righteous Brothers – Stand By

The debut single for the Righteous Brothers following their departure from producer, Phil Spector at Philles Records, was’（You’re My） Soul & Inspiration’ issued on the M~G~M subsidiary label, Verve. A majestic and massive’Wall of Sound’ production produced by Bill Medley that was as good as anything Spector could have cranked out. An albums worth of material was recorded for the Lp showcasing the hit single and of that collection of tunes was a marvelously atmospheric Bill Medley original composition entitled,’Stand By’. Oddly, only Medley is featured on lead vocals with Bobby Hatfield sharing the backing vocals with the Blossoms. Recorded a mile north of Gold Star Recording Studios （Spectors studio of choice） at United recording in studio’A’, Medley along with arranger, Bill Baker created a track that was so profoundly crafted yet was destined to languish away as filler with the tune,’He’, selected from the LP as the follow-up to’Soul & Inspiration’ instead.
Medley would produce a version of’Stand By’ with the Blossoms and issued as a single on Bell Records a couple of years later.

Yvonne Carroll – Stand By Him（Paradise）（unreleased demo, 1965）

The first of two known unreleased demo versions of this epic tune with completely different lyrics and title. The second demo version utilizing most of the basic melody but with different lyrics and the title of’Paradise’, was recorded by L.A. session singer, Oma Heard. These two as well as the spectacular Ronettes recording of the tune were recorded at Hollywoods Gold Star Studios within months of each other. This demo version features the vocals of L.A. session singer Yvonne Carroll who also recorded singles on Domain, Vee Jay, and Challenge and one disc on the Counsel label as the Crayons. Other artists to have recorded their versions include, the Shangri-las, Gogi Grant, the Supremes, Bette Midler and also Harry Nilsson.
