Diane Minor – When(Will I Forget You)(1964/08)

Issued in August 1964,’When (Will I Forget You)’ was the flip side to,’I Don’t Want To Play In Your Band’ and was on the first of only seven known singles by this elusive Nashville vocalist. Produced and composed by Alex Zanetis,’When (Will I Forget You)’ sounded very much like the material that Brenda Lee was cranking out at the time. (Zanetis did actually write one of Brenda Lee’s hits entitled,’As Usual’ from the same year.) The A-side to Diane’s RIC single was an up tempo pop/teen sounding production but it nor the ballad side seemed to have stirred up the attention needed for a hit.
Curiously, there was a seven year gap before the next of two singles on the Isle City label was released of which the first she was only featured on one side with Johnny Campbell on the other. Another five years passed and then in 1976 and 1977, Diane released two singles and an album on October Records. Diane’s final two singles were issued LPS Records, an obscure label based in Bellingham, Washington and that’s the last known activity of Diane Minor within the music biz.

Billboard Country Chart Peaks: 1 (sales, juke box, and radio)
The duo consisted of close friends Betty Jack Davis and Mary Frances Penick (aka ‘Skeeter Davis’). Betty Jack was killed in an automobile accident just as this record was entering the Billboard charts. She was replaced by her sister Georgia, but the duo never had another hit. Skeeter went solo in 1956

Billboard Chart Peaks: 15 (Radio Airplay), 20 (Juke Box Play)

Nat “King” Cole – Unforgettable(1951/01/08 his original version)
orchestra conducted by Nelson Riddle

Peaking at only #14 on the weekly sales charts and compared to Nat’s various chart-topping million-sellers, “Unforgettable” did not rank among his top hits at the time; though over the years it has grown to become one of the most highly-regarded Cole standards. This production was also special for another reason: it was the first chance to see the name of arranger-conductor Nelson Riddle credited on the label of a popular Capitol recording (see the description for Cole’s “Too Young”).
Note that this is the original mono hit, not to be confused with Cole’s more commonly reissued stereo remake of 1961, conducted not by Riddle but by Ralph Carmichael. It was the voice track from that later recording that was used for Natalie Cole’s popular 1991 “duet” version.
