＜昨年からクリスマスを祝う行事を禁止した金正恩。建国の父・金日成を神格化して国民に国家への忠誠を誓わせるためにはキリスト教は都合が悪い＞
アメリカの絵本『いじわるグリンチのクリスマス』に登場する全身が緑色の生き物グリンチは、人間とクリスマスが大嫌い――。ところが現実の世界にも、何とかしてクリスマスをつぶそうとする国家指導者がいる。北朝鮮の金正恩（キム・ジョンウン）朝鮮労働党委員長だ。
昨年、金正恩はクリスマスを祝う行事を公式に禁止し、その代わりに国を挙げて１９１９年１２月２４日に生まれた祖母の金正淑（キム・ジョンスク）の誕生日を祝賀する記念行事を行った。さらに韓国の情報機関、国家情報院によると、今年は集まって酒を飲んだり、歌を歌ったりする行為を禁止することで、クリスマス関連の行事も開催できないようにした。

“Child Of Winter （Christmas Song）” was written by Brian Wilson and Stephen Kalinich in late 1974. Unfortunately the single （with “Good Vibrations” as the B-side） was released just two days before Christmas, significantly affecting sales. The record has since become a Beach Boys’ collectible. “Child Of Winter （Christmas Song）” was also released on the Beach Boys’ 1998 album, Ultimate Christmas.

　かつてクリスマス特番は、テレビのドル箱コンテンツでした。複数の局で音楽特番が放送されるほか、恋愛バラエティー特番も多く、連ドラは「クリスマスに最終回を迎える」というロマンチックな展開で話題を独占。視聴者にとっては、大晦日の『ＮＨＫ紅白歌合戦』と並ぶ師走の風物詩であり、年齢性別を問わず支持を集めていました。
　しかし、２１世紀に入ったころからクリスマスが徐々に「恋人たちの華やかなアニバーサリー」から、「家族や仲間と過ごす穏やかなイベント」に変わり、盛り上がりは減少。そんな世間のムードを受けて、テレビのクリスマス特番も減っていきました。
　今年のクリスマス特番は、定番の『明石家サンタの史上最大のクリスマスプレゼントショー２０１７』（フジテレビ系、２４日２５時～）、『クリスマスの約束』（ＴＢＳ系、２５日２３時４０分～）のほか、『ＣＤＴＶスペシャル！クリスマス音楽祭２０１７』（ＴＢＳ系、２５日１９時～）が放送される程度。
　日本テレビは『世界の果てまでイッテＱ！クリスマス爆笑アワード』（２４日１９時５８分～）、『おしゃれイズム 話題の美女とクリスマスパーティー』（２４日２３時～）、『有吉ゼミ、世界へ行く クリスマス４時間特大スペシャル』（２５日１９時～）と、既存番組に「クリスマス」というフレーズを掲げて特番にしていますが、内容はほとんど変わりません。
