中国・山東省のある町が、パソコンなどで漢字変換できない珍しい姓を持つ住民に対し、名前の文字を変えるよう要求していたことが分かった。
改姓を求められたのは、山東省の町に住むShan姓の住民約２００人。身分証や運転免許といった文書をパソコンを使って作成する必要性が高まったことから、一般的な文書作成ソフトでは変換できないShan姓の変更を余儀なくされているという。この町では２００３年以降、Shan姓の家庭の新生児は、より一般的なXian姓で登録されるようになった。
