東日本大震災の際、フランス政府の勧告に従って東京から国外に一時避難したことを理由に解雇したのは不当だとして、ＮＨＫに委託スタッフとして勤務していたフランス国籍のエマニュエル・ボダンさん（５５）が１５日、解雇無効の確認と損害賠償などを求める訴えを東京地裁に起こした。
訴状によると、ボダンさんはＮＨＫに２０年以上勤務し、海外向けラジオのアナウンスや翻訳業務に従事。毎年度、業務委託契約を交わしていた。
２０１１年３月の震災直後、フランス政府の避難勧告で、東京を離れ同月３０日には出社すると上司に伝えたが、２２日付書面で突然、解雇を通知されたと主張している。

政府の地震調査委員会は１１日、日本周辺で起きる地震の発生確率を、ことし１月１日を基準として計算した結果を発表、東南海地震の今後３０年以内の発生確率が、昨年の「７０％程度」から「７０～８０％」に上昇するなど、一部地域でわずかに上昇した。南海地震（３０年以内）は「６０％程度」で変わらなかった。
主に時間の経過による影響で上昇したという。ただ東南海・南海地震については、調査委が現在、発生可能性の評価内容自体を見直す作業を進めており、「数値は暫定的」としている。新たな評価は３月をめどにまとめる。
関東大震災（１９２３年）と同タイプの地震は１０年以内だと「ほぼ０～０・１％」から「ほぼ０～０・２％」とわずかに上昇した。３０年以内では「ほぼ０～２％」で変わらなかった。三陸沖北部では、「０・７～１０％」だった確率が「１～２０％」と上昇した。

東京の都心で雪が積もったことについて、気象庁は都心の気温が予想より早く下がって、午前中から雨が雪に変わり、長い時間降り続いたためと説明しています。
気象庁は、気温の予想は誤差があり、雨か雪の判断は難しいことを理解してほしいとしています。
気象庁は１４日の朝の予報で、関東地方について、「平地でも積雪となるところがありますが、東京２３区では積雪になる可能性は小さいでしょう」と発表しました。

地震の場合、発生確率の算出と、予知とではかなり話が違ってくる。前者はたぶん公式みたいなものに当てはめるんだろうね。後者は競馬の予想に近い感じだろう。

人間の側としては「地震は時と場所を選ばない。いつだって起こりえる」、そう心得ておくのが一番いいのではないか。

３・１１直前の三陸沖地震を的中させた北陸地震雲予知研究観測所の上出孝之所長が「５日の正午から午後４時に灰色の大きな帯状の地震雲を観測しました。１月１０日から７日以内（＋２日）に東北（岩手、宮城、福島）でＭ６．５（±０．５）、震度５～６の地震が起きる可能性がある」と予告しているのだ。
上出氏によると、地震雲は、「地震が起こる前に岩板に強い力が加わり、電磁気が発生することで、プラスイオンが電磁気とともに上昇し、水蒸気に影響を及ぼしてできる」という。３０年以上の継続観測の結果、１０年は３５回中３０回、１１年は５４回中４６回と高い的中率を誇っているだけに気になる。
