１９６０年代、イギリスとカナダ・オンタリオ州東部オタワにも The Staccatos というグループが存在していました。

南アフリカで１９７１年７月にヒットした反公害、反環境汚染の歌。

「マミー・ブルー」のカバー。当時私はこの「マミー・ブルー」が嫌いで、「ああもう俺の時代じゃないな」と感じさせた曲の一つでしたよ。

 

Hawk
“アース・ウィンド・アンド・ファイアー”スタイルの５人組で、１９７１年末に出したビートルズカバーが７２年にヒットしました。

Rabbitt
４人組のロックバンド。

Rabbitt – Locomotive Breath (Jethro Tull cover)
英プログレ、ジェスロ・タルのアルバム曲（シングルカット日本発売時の邦題「蒸気機関車のあえぎ」）をカバー。カバーにしては完成度が高い。
１９７２年シングルリリース、７３年にかけてヒット。

See the Wikipedia “Tom Hark” page for more background on this South African kwela song, a large UK hit which was covered in the U.S. in a similar–though more subdued–arrangement by Paul Gayten under the title “Windy” and was also done in a big band treatment as “Tom Hark” by the Ted Heath band.

カバーバージョン２種もヒット。

Ted Heath and his Orchestra – Tom Hark（1958/05 U.S. 45 single version）

The South African recording of “Tom Hark” by Elias and his Zigzag Jive Flutes made it all the way to #2 on the UK singles chart. Under the title “Windy,” a similarly arranged version was released and briefly charted in the U.S. by Paul Gayten. This was the big band cover by Ted Heath in the version released on 45 here in the U.S. （a different Heath version has also been reissued and posted elsewhere）.
