Some other YouTube posts of this tune were taken from a stereo LP recorded by Kay many years after this first version from 1947. The former Vaudeville performer enjoyed a long career in stage, radio, TV, and nightclubs. This was one of her best-known numbers, composed by the songwriting team of Bob Hilliard, Dick Sanford, and Sammy Mysels the same year that they collaborated on the novelty hit “Red Silk Stockings And Green Perfume.”

Flip side is the instrumental “I’m The Echo (You’re The Song That I Sing)”.

Ted Weems and his Orchestra – Talkin’ To Myself(1934)
vocal: Red Ingle

recorded in Chicago September 15, 1934
This was recorded during the first of two four-song sessions that Weems did for Columbia in-between his long associations with Victor/Bluebird and Decca. For the flip side “Blue Sky Avenue,”
It’s a tune from the 1934 Universal film “Gift Of Gab,” with a song score by Con Conrad & Herb Magidson and an interesting cast lineup that included Edmund Lowe, Gloria Stuart, Ruth Etting, Phil Baker, Ethel Waters, Gene Austin, Chester Morris, Victor Moore, Andy Devine, the Gus Arnheim orchestra, and cameos by the studio’s horror stars Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi.

Angelo Ferdinando and his Hotel Great Northern Orchestra – Talkin’ To Myself(1934)

On the flip side of Bing’s well-known release of “Dinah” (collaboration with the Mills Brothers) was this popular tune. Per John McNicholas, producer of the Jonzo “Chronological Bing Crosby, volume 9” CD, the recording session took place as follows: “The Wurlitzer pipe organ, manned by Helen Crawford in New York City’s Paramount Theater, was linked by a remote line to Brunswick’s Studio no. 2 at 799 Seventh Avenue from which Bing contributed these vocals. The distance between the two buildings was approximately half a mile.”

Louisiana Collegians – Talk About Heaven(1931)
vocal: Arthur Fields as “Jim Andrews”

The “Louisiana Collegians” pseudonym was used on various dime store labels to represent the likes of Lou Gold, Ted Wallace, Phil Spitalny and the also-pseudonymous “Ford Britten,” whose orchestra is shown in Johnson-Shirley’s ADBORAF as the band of record for this session. Ford Britten was also a name used by singer Fields on a number of Clarion and Velvet-Tone releases, though he’s shown on this label as “Jim Andrews.” On the flip side is Ben Selvin (as ‘Chester Leighton’) with “If You Should Ever Need Me”.
