血液中の脂肪増加を抑える新成分がトマトに含まれていることを、京都大大学院の河田照雄教授らの研究グループが発見した。マウスを使った実験で、血液などの中性脂肪量を抑制することが確認された。メタボリック症候群の予防に効果が期待されるという。10日付の米科学誌プロス・ワンで発表した。
河田教授らは、トマトの実とジュースの成分を精密に分析。脂肪の燃焼を最も活性化させる成分として、不飽和脂肪酸のリノール酸に類似した物質を特定した。

大人になって、生トマトを何分の一かに切ったものなら「エイヤッ」と口に入れることができるようになり、
トマトジュースや、それをベースにした野菜ジュースも飲めるようにはなりましたが、
今でも「生のトマトをまるごと一個食え」と言われると困ります。
あのミドリ色した、ドロッとした部分が特にダメなんですよね。
