米テネシー州で、公立学校の教師が教室で進化論や地球温暖化に対する異論を教えることを容認する州法が11日までに成立した。同州は進化論や地球温暖化に批判的なキリスト教右派勢力が強い地域。州法の推進派は「批判的思考法を養うのが目的」と主張しているが、科学者らは「神による天地創造説や温暖化懐疑論を教室に持ち込もうとしているのは明らかだ」と反発している。

「批判的思考法を養うのが目的」との言いぐさ。欺瞞的で悪質。説教強盗みたいじゃないか。
進化論は学術上の定説で科学的に検証可能。天地創造説は特定の宗教の教義であり世界観であって科学的実証は不可能。
一方、地球温暖化の肯定・否定は本来学問の場で争われるべきだが、国家あるいは石油メジャー、産業界の利害と深く関わっているため、議論が歪められているのが現状だ。
このまったく位相の異なる進化論・地球温暖化論をともに否定したいのが、南部の保守派で、いわば教義と欲（利害）の二人連れである。

もともとアメリカ自体が、キリスト教におけるプロテスタントという信仰的立場と自由主義という、これまた本来は別物のイデアを欺瞞的に結合した主張のもとで成り立った国であるからして、このような醜状も当然のことといえる。
彼らの自由とは要するに好き勝手にやる自由、事実でないことを主張する自由であって、歴史的にはロマン主義の範疇である。その最も醜い具現は黒人リンチで有名な秘密結社KKK（クー・クラックス・クラン）であろう。非合法ながら今も存在するこの白人至上主義カルトも、そのルーツを尋ねればテネシー州。近年は反ユダヤの部分でネオナチ勢力とも手を結んでいるという。

ヨーロッパで迫害された歴史を持つプロテスタント教徒が、迫害する側になる。これはユダヤ教徒がイスラエルという「国家」を作り、パレスチナの土地と人命を奪いまくっているのと似ている。学校でもいじめられっ子がある日突然いじめる側にまわることはまま見られることではあるが。

Not the late Scottish rock & blues musician, but the Tennessee-born songwriter （”Delta Dawn,” “Reuben James,” “Rings,” etc）. Included on his 1971 LP “Alex Harvey,” this was the earliest of various Harvey performances of his song available on YouTube. According to him it was written about his mother. Co-credited as writer （but disputed by Harvey） was Larry Collins of The Collins Kids. In 1972 the song became the breakthrough hit for country star Tanya Tucker and in 1973 it climbed to #1 on the pop charts for Helen Reddy

Lawdy は lord の米南部訛りの発音。「おやまぁ」のような汎用的間投詞だそうだ。
歌の主人公（私たち）が旅の途中で南部のある町に１日だけ滞在する。町を案内したがる地元の女の子に、どこにでもあるようなところで違いと言ったら町の名前くらいなもの、と軽くディスる内容。

Chuck Berry’s rather gentle original arrangement of his composition “Memphis, Tennessee” was first issued in 1959 on the flip side of “Back In The U.S.A.” His version didn’t attract much attention at the time, but Lonnie Mack’s rockin’ 1963 guitar instrumental and Johnny Rivers’ rhythmic vocal treatment a year later cemented it as a rock ‘n roll standard. Rivers was a regular performer at the Whiskey a Go Go club on Sunset Strip at the time and this was the first of three good-sized hits for him in ’64.
