桜正宗は１７１７年創業の老舗。１１代目当主の山邑太左衛門氏（４９）の説明によると、当時、灘地域（神戸市、兵庫県西宮市）では酒銘を競っており、「助六」や「猿若」など歌舞伎役者に関する酒銘が多かった。同社も役者名を取り「薪水」を使っていたが、６代目山邑太左衛門は酒銘が女性的で、愛飲家にふさわしいか悩んでいたという。
６代目は１８４０年、京都の元政庵瑞光寺の住職を訪ね、机上の「臨済正宗」と書かれた経典を見て「正宗」がひらめいた。正宗の音読み「セイシュウ」が「セイシュ」に近く縁起も良さそうだと思ったようだ。ただ、同寺の現在の住職、川口智康さん（６０）はこの由来について「昔のことでわからない」とのこと。
酒銘へのこだわりだけでなく、６代目が酒造りにかける情熱はすさまじかった。今日の吟醸造りの原型となる「高精白米仕込み」に取り組んだほか、西宮で酒造に適した「宮水」を発見、灘が最大の産地となる原動力になった。桜正宗など灘の清酒は「下り酒」と呼ばれ江戸で爆発的に売れた。１７１７年から江戸で灘の清酒を扱う酒類卸、ぬ利彦（東京・中央）の中沢彦七社長（７０）は「正宗は吉原や藩主の屋敷で評判を呼び、江戸庶民に広がった」と話す。
人気が高まるにつれ、正宗の名にあやかる蔵元が全国で続々と現れた。正宗の名は普通名詞となり、１８８４年に政府が商標条例を制定した際、桜正宗は正宗を登録したが受け付けられなかったほど。特許庁は「慣用商標の中で代表的な事例の一つ」（商標課）と説明。そこで桜正宗は国花の「桜」をつけた。

正宗（まさむね、生没年不詳）は、鎌倉時代末期から南北朝時代初期に相模国鎌倉で活動した刀工。五郎入道正宗、岡崎正宗、岡崎五郎入道とも称され、日本刀剣史上もっとも著名な刀工の一人。「相州伝」と称される作風を確立し、多くの弟子を育成した。正宗の人物およびその作った刀についてはさまざまな逸話や伝説が残され、講談などでも取り上げられている。「正宗」の名は日本刀の代名詞ともなっており、その作風は後世の刀工に多大な影響を与えた。

酒の正宗は日本刀から来てるとばかり思ってましたが、違うんですね。知らなかった。
消波ブロックは波消しブロックとも呼ばれ、打ち寄せる波の力を分散するために造られたコンクリートブロックのこと。以前はテトラ、テトラポッドという呼び名が一般的だったが、これは登録商標であり、固有名詞なので、一般名詞としては消波ブロックが用いられるようになった。
ちなみにテトラポッドは4本脚を意味するギリシア語が語源。消波ブロックにはテトラポッドのような立体型のほか、平型、階段型、直積型などがあり、波や潮流の特性、使用する海岸の地形や自然環境に合わせて使い分けられている。

アルジェリア南東部イナメナスの天然ガス関連施設で起きた人質事件で、朝日新聞社などが加盟する内閣記者会は２２日、政府が公表していない被害者の氏名と年齢のうち少なくとも死亡が確認された７人分の公表を安倍晋三首相と菅義偉官房長官に申し入れた。
申入書では「事件に対する国民の関心は非常に高く、日本政府が公的に安否確認を行うとともに、情報収集、救出、帰国支援に全面的に関与している」と指摘。「最も基礎的な情報」である氏名と年齢の公表を求めている。

ところが、記者会側の思惑とは異なり、大いに反発を買っているのだ。政府に犠牲者情報の公開を要求した――というニュースが流れると、ネット上には、「遺族を晒しものにしてお涙頂戴記事を書きたいだけだろ」「遺族へのいたわりとか、節度というものはマスコミにないのか」「国民の関心が高いとかは余計なお世話。実名が必要な意味が分からない」といった意見が多く寄せられた。
また、「政府の発表に頼らず、自社の責任で取材して遺族の了解とって実名報道すればいい」「メディアは本当に報道被害対策をどうにかしろ。放置したままだから、『情報非公開』の言い訳が説得力を持ってしまう」などのコメントもあった。
この問題を巡っては、毎日新聞のベテラン記者のツイートにも批判や反論が殺到した。
「亡くなった方のお名前は発表すべきだ。それが何よりの弔いになる。人が人として生きた証しはその名前にある。人生の重さとプライバシーを勘違いしてはいけない」
こうした記者のつぶやきに対し、リプライの多くは「こういう報道の方針が一日も早く改まりますように」「実名じゃないと弔いにならないのか。勝手な理屈、勘違いとしか思えない」「ご遺族がいやならそっとしてあげてほしい。そもそも伝える側が判断することなのか？」といった内容だった。

政府は２４日、アルジェリアの人質事件で死亡が確認された日本人１０人の氏名を公表する方針を決めた。菅義偉官房長官は２１日に「７人死亡」を発表して以来、被害者家族や日揮の意向を踏まえて公表を控えてきたが、今後始める事件の検証作業などへの影響を考え、「遺体の帰国後」を落としどころに政府が日揮を押し切った。
安否不明者の確認作業にあたって、政府は日揮と緊密に連絡を取り合ってきた。
複数の日揮関係者によると、同社は事件について社内でかん口令を敷き、巻き込まれた関係者の氏名を秘匿。幹部社員すら報道で初めて知る状況だったという。

菅義偉官房長官が二十五日公表したアルジェリア人質事件の日本人犠牲者十人の情報は、氏名だけにとどまり、出身地や年齢、役職などは明らかにしなかった。
菅氏は公表した理由を「遺体が帰国した後なら、ご家族とも対面するので、政府の責任で公表するのが適当だと判断した」と説明。他の情報や亡くなった状況に関しては「公表しない」「勘弁してほしい」「プライバシー」と繰り返した。無事だった七人の氏名の公表も「心のケアをずっとしているので、控えさせてもらう」とした。
