国連安全保障理事会は１９日、シリア停戦監視団（ＵＮＳＭＩＳ）の任期延長に関する決議案の採決を行ったが、シリアと関係の深いロシアと中国が拒否権を行使したため否決された。
シリア当局に圧力をかけることを目的とする決議案に、両国が拒否権を使ったのはこれで３度目。
決議案は英仏独米が提案していた。２０日に期限切れを迎える停戦監視団の任務をさらに４５日間延長するもので、シリア当局が１０日以内に武器使用停止や軍撤退に応じない場合の具体的な制裁内容を盛り込んでいた。
ロシアも監視団の任務を９０日延長する決議案を提示しているが、制裁に関する警告は含まれていない。

中国・ロシア支配層のアンチ・ヒューマニズム的体質がよく表れている行動です。
中・ロは「話し合いで解決すべき」といいますが、紛争を武力で解決してきたのは他ならぬ彼らであることからすると、そんな自分たちを頼る、いわば同類のアサド大統領を擁護したいということなんでしょう。
スズキのインド子会社マルチ・スズキの同国北部ハリヤナ州にあるマネサール工場で１８日夜（日本時間同日深夜）、従業員の暴動があり、インド人従業員１人が死亡、日本人２人を含む約９０人が負傷した。マルチ・スズキの幹部やスズキ本社、在インド日本大使館が１９日、共同通信に明らかにした。
負傷した日本人２人は、意識があり命に別条はない。スズキは１９日、工場の同日の操業を終日停止することを明らかにした。
暴動は工場のインド人監督者が従業員に対し、同国の身分制度カーストに関する差別的な言動をしたことで広がった。暴動には従業員ら３千～４千人が加わった。

ニューデリー郊外のマネサール工場で１８日起きた暴動では、組合員が幹部に鉄の棒で殴りかかった後、建物に放火した。死亡した人事部長は、殴打され動けなくなったところで炎に巻き込まれたとみられる。
激しい労使紛争も珍しくないインドだが、事件で頭と腕、足に重傷を負い入院中の幹部社員ビクラム・カザンチさん（５０）は「こんな暴力は想像もできなかった」と声を震わせていた。事件後、労組員約１００人が殺人などの疑いで逮捕されたが、逃亡した者も多く、警察が行方を追っている。工場は１９日以降操業を停止したままだ。
２３日付「ヒンズー」などインドの有力紙は、内務省が傘下の情報機関に、マルチ・スズキ労組の幹部と過激組織「インド共産党毛沢東主義派」の関係を調べるよう指示したと報じた。
