Eventually racking up over 35 singles on the Scepter label, it was February 1961, early in their successful career that the girls and their production team were working on a follow-up to their world-wide smash,’Will You Love Me Tomorrow’. Written by Willie Denson and their producer, Luther Dixon,’Mama Said’ was born. As with many recording sessions, producers and arrangers will sample different arrangements and musical elements before mixing and editing what they believe to be the hit-bound version. In the case, while a version of’Mama Said’ was cut with a string section, it was not included in the final master. Here is take 7 of the strings added to the backing track.

Out of Los Angeles, this Spectorian Girl Pop disc was one of the many attempts at creating a’Wall of Sound’ production to only have it for the most part, never see the light of day and languish in obscurity. Unknown 16 year old L.A. high school student, Debbie Stanley, was snatched up in August 1963 by singer, Bobby Darin and signed with his then newly forme,’T.M. Music’ firm. It appears that the Bobby Darin/Arthur Resnick tune issued on Recording Industries Corporation records in July 1964 was not only Miss Stanley’s debut into the music biz but also her swan song. There is no other information to be found about the young songstress.

（Unreleased 1966 Roulette Records recording） An exciting recent discovery brought forth by composer/musician/producer, Larry Weiss was a dusty acetate that he unearthed containing three finished and unreleased recordings by the CAROLINES. They were an attractive and talented quartet of east coast girls that he produced for their short stint at Roulette Records which gave birth to not only their Spectoresque double sider for the label in the autumn of 1966 （’Can’t Stop Lovin’ The Boy’/’You’re My Baby’） but three more delectable’Wall of Sound’ Girl Group masterpieces of the highest order. The tunes include’Big House’ which is a wonderful Larry Weiss original,’Baby That’s Me’ that would eventually have versions recorded by the Fashions, the Paris Sisters, the Cake and Lesley Gore and finally,’Mama’s Little Girl’ most notably known by the versionrecorded by Reparata & The Delrons.
