ベネズエラは南米大陸の北端に位置する国。
中南米諸国（ラテンアメリカ）のご多分にもれず、永らく軍部クーデター、政治腐敗、政敵暗殺、米ソ傀儡勢力の対立などがごちゃごちゃと続いていましたが、
１９６０～７０年代には民主的体制が比較的安定していたこともあり、欧米のロックやポップスが若い人たちに大流行しました。これもお決まりの、カバーから始まって伝統音楽に根ざしたオリジナルへとつながっていく、日本と大差ない展開が見られました。

「ベネズエラ」の元は、イタリアのヴェネツィアです。
ここを訪れたイタリアの探検家アメリゴ・ヴェスプッチ(「アメリカ」の名前の元)がこの地にある水上村落を見てヴェネツィアを思い出して"Veneziola"「(イタリア語で)小さいヴェネツィア」と名付けて、これをスペイン語にしたのが"Venezuela"です。— ラテン語さん (@latina_sama) October 28, 2023
