Harold Arlen – Let’s Fall In Love(1933)
orchestra conducted by Ray Sinatra
Though the 1933 film “Let’s Fall In Love” featured Ann Sothern and Edmund Lowe atop the cast list, the real star was the title song, heard here and there throughout the movie. Among the many recordings of the tune that became available in early 1934 (Eddy Duchin’s was the best-seller), my personal favorite is this rather melancholy one by the song’s co-writer Arlen.
Don Walker and his Orchestra – Let’s Fall In Love(1934)
vocal: Joseph Sudy
Henry King as “Don Walker”
Also posted to this channel in versions by Eddy Duchin, Fred Rich, and the song’s co-writer Harold Arlen, “Let’s Fall In Love” was the very popular title tune from Columbia’s 1933 film starring Ann Sothern and Edmund Lowe.
“Don Walker” was bandleader King’s regular Vocalion pseudonym during the 1933-34 period in which he also recorded under his own name for Victor and then Columbia.
Howard Godfrey & his Orchestra at the Waldorf Hotel, London – Let’s Fall In Love(1934)
Eddy Duchin and his Orchestra – Let’s Fall In Love(1934)
vocal: Lew Sherwood

Phil Regan
Though the film “Let’s Fall In Love” featured Ann Sothern and Edmund Lowe atop the cast list, the real star was the title song, heard here and there throughout the movie. This Rich recording turned out to be one of the more popular versions.

Abe Lyman and his California Orchestra – I’m In Love(1934)
vocal: Louis Rapp aka Barry Wood
Lyman’s version of this 1934 tune features vocalist Louis Rapp, younger brother of bandleader Barney Rapp and later known as Barry Wood when he recorded for Victor and appeared on “Your Hit Parade” and on his own NBC radio show. For the flip side “Pop! Goes Your Heart,”
Nelson Eddy – I’m Falling In Love With Someone(1935)
orchestra conducted by Nat Shilkret
This love ballad from the 1910 Victor Herbert operetta “Naughty Marietta’ was also one of the highlights from MGM’s 1935 film version….the first on-screen pairing of Nelson with Jeannette MacDonald.
Dick Haymes and The Song Spinners – For The First Time(I’ve Fallen In Love)(1943)
This forgotten song from the war years reached as high as #6 on the weekly “Your Hit Parade” radio countdowns. See also the flipside “Put Your Arms Around Me, Honey.”
This is a’recording ban’ hit, performed a cappella (all vocal…no musical instruments) due to the ongoing strike against the recording industry by James C. Petrillo’s American Federation of Musicians which began August 1, 1942, and remained in effect for each of the major labels until they reached agreement on a new contract with the union.
