Dolly Parton – Two Doors Down(1978/03 stereo 45 single version)

produced by Gary Klein
Pop Chart Peaks: Billboard 19, Cash Box 24, Record World 31- A/C Peak: 12 – C&W: shown as a flip side in the same position with “It’s All Wrong, But It’s All Right”
Initially arranged as a more’country-sounding’ album track for early pressings of Dolly’s 1977 LP “Here You Come Again”, the song was re-recorded for single release with this more pop-oriented arrangement. On the C&W chart it was her flip side ballad “It’s All Wrong, But It’s All Right,” which rose to #1 while singer Zella Lehr received the attention of country radio and record buyers with her version of “Two Doors Down” (#7 chart peak.

Zella Lehr – Two Doors Down(1977/12)

Dolly Parton – Two Doors Down(Original 1977 Version)
ドリー・パートン – ツー・ドアーズ・ダウン
Composer: Dolly Parton
from the album “Here You Come Again”(1977)愛のほほえみ

This is the version of Two Doors Down that originally was included on all pressings of Here You Come Again that were released when the album came out back in 1977, but that all changed with any release of the album since 1978 because Zella Lehr released a cover version that was a top ten U.S. country hit before Dolly could even release hers as the album’s second single in February 1978, on top of the album’s title track became a much bigger pop hit than Parton had anticipated, not wanting to compete with Lehr’s country version of the song, and wanting to capitalize on her newfound pop success, she rerecorded a looser, pop-oriented version of the song with a slight disco flavouring, omitting the first verse, and including an upbeat “sing-along” bridge.
The new 1978 version got released on a double-A-sided 7 inch single with the other side being “It’s All Wrong, but It’s All Right” intended for country airplay, and “Two Doors Down” intended for the pop airplay. The single topped the U.S. country charts, and was a top-20 pop hit for Parton, and went on to be one of her most popular hits.

Florence Henderson – A Love Like Yours(Don’t Come Knocking Every Day)(1970/04)
シングル “What Do You Do When Love Dies” のB面。

In December of 1969, actress/vocalist Florence Henderson entered a Los Angeles recording studio and recorded four known tracks that were produced by John Walsh and arranged by Richard Rome. Utilizing the musical talents of L.A.’s’Wrecking Crew’ and an uncredited ensemble of female session singers, the result was an impressive grouping of brassy and somewhat soulful pop. Issued in January 1970, the first of two Decca singles which included the tunes,’Conversations’ b/w’I’ll Never Fall In Love Again’, garnered Florence a #25 hit on the Billboard Contemporary Adult chart. The follow up disc released in April 1970,’What Do You Do When Love Dies’ b/w’A Love Like Yours (Don’t Come Knocking Every Day)’ came and went without notice unfortunately. The plug side was a decent pop tune but hidden on the flip side is the actual stand out track of the two. Composed by Motown’s hit-making songwriting team, Holland-Dozier-Holland, it was originally recorded by Martha & The Vandellas in 1963. Florence’s producer and arranger chose to model their production with the song by’borrowing’ the arrangement from the 1967 version produced by Phil Spector for Tina Turner. Quite a stunner of a record which displayed quite effectively that’Carol Brady’ had decent set of pipes.
