忘れておりました。今年のＣＭで印象に残ったもの。
SoftBank携帯でグランド・ファンク・レイルロードのバージョンを模した「ロコモーション」が使われたこと。
グランド・ファンクのリバイバルの時はすでにロックはもちろん同時代の音楽に興味が失せていたので、逆に今聞くと新鮮です。
でもやっぱり私の中ではオリジナルのリトル・エヴァのほうが大きいですね。
キャロル・キングがスタジオ・オーケストラの指揮もやってるリトル・エヴァ版はティーン向けポップスにしてはなかなかヘビーなサウンド。それでいて泥臭さがない洗練されたアレンジで、小娘に歌わせるにはちょっと勿体ないクオリティです。
ツイスト、ハリガリ、ワトゥーシなど、当時のダンスブームの中で企画された曲ですから、振り付けもあったのですが、そっちのほうはまったく残ってないですね。
歌は残れどもダンスは雲散霧消――、
それなのに「みんなでロコモーションを踊ろう」と歌うのですから、なんか不思議です。

エヴァを雇ったときすでに彼女が歌えることは知っていた。エヴァはしょっちゅう私たちのデモで歌っていて、その間は彼女の姉がベビーシッターを代行していた。
一九六二年、フィラデルフィアを拠点にするレコード会社カメオ・パークウェイから、ディー・ディー・シャープが「マッシュド・ポテト・タイム」で全米一位のヒットを放つ。さっそく私たちはディー・ディーが歌うことを想定して「ロコモーション」を書き、エヴァのリード・ボーカルでデモを制作した。だがカメオ・パークウェイは自給自足のヒット工場で、ディー・ディーもプロデューサーも外部作曲家の素材を欲しがらなかったのだ。

我が家のべビーシッターをリトル・エヴァと命名したのはドニーである。こうして「ロコモーション」はディメンション・レコードの第一弾シングルとして、一九六二年六月八日に発売された。
ドニーの直感は、本当にお金を生み出した。「ロコモーション」が全米一位になるのに大した時間はかからず、その後七週連続一位。私たちのこのキャッチーなダンス・ナンバーは、その後数十年にわたり様々なアーティストたちによってレコード化されていく。七〇年代のグランド・ファンク・レイルロードや、八〇年代のオーストラリア人エンタテイナー、カイリー・ミノーグらだ。
「ロコモーション」は新種のダンス・ステップをほのめかしてはいるが、ジェリーも私も具体的なダンスを思い描いていた訳ではない。そのためエヴァは人前で歌うために自分でダンスを考案せねばならず、宣伝写真撮影の日、彼女は…機関車の横に立ち、「ロコモーション」の曲がスピーカーから大音量で流れる中、機関車のように腕を動かした。こうしてダンスが生まれたのだ。＜キャロル・キング著、松田ようこ訳『ナチュラル・ウーマン キャロル・キング自伝』１２５～１２６ページ より一部引用＞

Here we have one of the standout tracks on an LP produced and arranged by David Gates that featured Pat Boone belting out covers of 12 hits of the day. The Carole King and Gerry Goffin song,’The Loco-Motion’ jumps from the groves with a backing track performed flawlessly by L.A.’s famed,’Wrecking Crew’ with perfect background vocals provided by the Girlfriends.
While he has been given a lot of grief for being squeaky clean and ripping off original R&B songs and recording and issuing them with a national record company where they became hits, overshadowing the real deal, the guy has managed to record different styles of music and reinvent himself more than once over the course of his long and colorful musical career. In the 1990’s, tanned, buff and wearing form fitting leather, Pat Boone recorded an album containing covers of heavy metal hits with classy, big band, jazzy arrangements. It was well received and sold well and although Boone was banished temporarily from the Christian music scene where he was prominently situated at that time would eventually be welcomed back to the fold. Most recently, at 86 years old he came to the forefront in 2020 during the worldwide riots and lockdowns with his composition,’Can’t We Get Along’ sung with stunning, emotional soulfulness by Wendy Moten. It’s a highly recommended recording that along with video of Ms. Moten performing it, there is a moving music video to view as well.

シャープや日清食品といった関西の大手企業をはじめ３５０を超える会社や団体のテレビ、ラジオＣＭなどのテープ類約９０００本が、大阪市内の倉庫で見つかった。

大阪に本社のあった広告会社「萬年社」が制作にかかわった資料で、約４０００本がテレビＣＭなど画像テープ、約３７００本がラジオＣＭを含む音源テープ。１９７０年から９０年代のものが中心だ。
先行調査したラジオＣＭには、「育って育って食べ盛り」と歌手の大滝詠一さんがＣＭソングを歌う日清食品の即席めん「出前一丁」、歌手のピンクレディーが声の出演をする「日清焼そばＵ・Ｆ・Ｏ・」など懐かしいものが目立つ。

Clare Teal – The Loco-Motion
Born Eva Narcissus Boyd （June 29, 1943–April 10, 2003）, the singer took the stage name of Little Eva, after a character from Uncle Tom’s Cabin. As a teenager, she worked as a babysitter for songwriters Carole King and Gerry Goffin. Amused by Boyd’s individual dancing style, they wrote “The Loco-Motion” for her and had her record it as a demo （the record was intended for Dee Dee Sharp）. After the success of “The Loco-Motion” （it hit #1 in the US Charts in 1962）, Boyd was stereotyped as a dance-craze singer and was given limited material.

WHEN Australian actor Kylie Minogue launched her stellar pop career with number one hit The Loco-Motion in 1987, it went on to be a big hit in the UK the following year.
