1936年の2曲

1936(昭和11)年は、美濃部達吉がテロに遭い、二・二六事件が起き、国号が大日本帝国に統一され、阿部定が吉蔵の局部をちょん切り、スペインで内戦が勃発し、ベルリンではオリンピックが行われ、関東軍に防疫部(のちの731部隊)が新設され、ソ連ではスターリンによる大粛清が始まるという、物情騒然たる時代でした。

そんな中にあっても、美しい音楽は作られておりました。

『今宵の君は』The Way You Look Tonight
フレッド・アステア、ジンジャー・ロジャースのコンビ6作目『有頂天時代(Swing Time)』のナンバーで、アカデミー歌曲賞(1936年)を獲得している名曲です。
作詞はドロシー・フィールズ、作曲はジェローム・カーン。
NHKラジオ第一放送『夢のハーモニー』(1965年4月5日~1984年4月1日)の番組主題歌で、私も何度か番組を聴いてます。

Guy Lombardo and his Royal Canadians – The Way You Look Tonight(1936)

recorded in Chicago July 24, 1936
First commercial recording of the Oscar-winning tune from the classic Fred Astaire-Ginger Rodgers film “Swing Time.” The song itself spent six weeks perched atop the “Your Hit Parade” survey, and this Lombardo treatment was recorded only two days prior to the top-selling commercial 78 which was sung by Astaire 25 years later, the song reappeared as the debut hit for The Lettermen
Note that the label scan for this release identifies the film as “Never Gonna Dance,” which happened to be one of the working titles for “Swing Time.” The movie opened in theaters one month after this track was recorded.
