１９７３年に買ったヘレン・シャピロのベスト盤に「チューリップ」という歌が入っておりました。

ヘレン・シャピロの時代の歌らしくないので、特に気にもしておりませんでしたが、アメリカのコメディアン タイニー・ティム（Tiny Tim）が１９６８年にこの曲のオリジナルを歌マネして人気者になったことを１９８０年代の終りころに知って、へぇーと思った。
アメリカのテレビ番組は一部のドラマ以外、日本にいてはまず見る機会がなく、ましてやテレビを中心に活動しているタレントやコメディアンの情報など伝わってきませんからタイニー・ティムって誰？って感じでした。
その住所には「ラ・ボエーム（La Bohème）」という店がある。
「ザ・ファット・ブラック・プッシーキャット」というペンキ文字は、今もミネッタ・ストリート１３番地のレンガ壁の上に残っている。１９５０年代から６０年代、そこはカフェであり、クラブでもあった。６０年代には、地元のメディアがこの店で働いていたひどい声で唄うホモのウェイターに注目し、引っ張り出し、結局彼は「タイニー・ティム（Tiny Tim）」の名でブレイクした。

A break-out novelty sensation following his “Laugh-In” appearances, Herbert Kaury often acknowledged his reverence to’The Singing Troubadour,’ Depression-era performer Nick Lucas. Lucas had introduced this– his signature tune–in the 1929 film “Gold Diggers Of Broadway” and also performed it on one of that year’s most popular 78rpm recordings.
かなりエキセントリックな芸風の人ですね。この人がマネたオリジナルの歌手がニック・ルーカス（Nick Lucas）で、１９２９年のコメディ映画『ブロードウェイ黄金時代（Gold Diggers of Broadway）』で歌ってる映像が残されてます。

Both this and the flip side “Painting The Clouds With Sunshine” were major 1929 song hits that Nick Lucas performed on-screen in “Gold-Diggers Of Broadway.” He recorded “Tip-Toe” on numerous occasions between 1929 and 1974 and was the inspiration for performer Herbert Khaury, the falsetto-voiced phenomenon known as Tiny Tim who revived the tune in 1968.

１９６０年代（Swingin’ 60’s）には、映画を中心に２０年代（The Roaring 20’s）、３０年代の懐古ブームが起きまして、
音楽の分野でも、バーバンク・サウンドとソフトロックをつなぐ線上に、オールドタイミーな持ち味の、スパンキー＆アワ・ギャング、バッキンガムス、クリッターズ、カウシルズ、ザ・サークルといった人たちが登場しました。
