Chick Webb and his Orchestra – That Rhythm Man（1934）

Shown simply as “Rhythm Man” on this original 78 label, it’s one of the Fats Waller-Harry Brooks-Andy Razaf songs composed for the 1929 off-Broadway revue “Hot Chocolates” （aka “Connie’s Hot Chocolates”）, which also included “Ain’t Misbehavin'” and “Black And Blue” in the score. “Rhythm Man” and the also-posted flip “Lona” were recorded at the Webb band’s first session after moving over to the newly-formed （American） Decca label.

Originally recorded and issued by （American） Decca, this Paramount movie title song was one of six released tracks that Kate made with that label in late 1934. Her next commercial session （with Victor） didn’t come until more than three years later. The English Brunswick flip side is “The Continental”

The musical comedy film “College Rhythm” starred Jack Oakie and Joe Penner; and the Mack Gordon-Harry Revel score included the hit ballad “Stay As Sweet As You Are” plus “Take A Number From One To Ten,” the title song, and “Let’s Give Three Cheers For Love,” which is the flip side of this Grier release.

We hear Lyda lend her fractured English to the title song of the 1934 Paramount college musical （by the way, that word she repeatedly shouts is actually “Hear-Ye!”）. The movie score by Harry Revel and Mack Gordon also included the major ballad hit “Stay As Sweet As You Are” as well as the flip side of this post “Take A Number From One To Ten”.

Chick Bullock and his Levee Loungers – That’s How Rhythm Was Born（1933）

This is actually a recording by Joseph Robechaux and His New Orleans Rhythm Boys. Singer Bullock was not a bandleader but was sometimes label-billed as such on recordings in which he was accompanied by various jazz groups. The flip side is “Swingy Little Thingy”.

The flip side is “Old Yazoo” （ https://youtu.be/9FHeq9Wn7c0 ）. From early 1932 until he was replaced by Lucky Millinder in late 1933, Baron Lee conducted the current incarnation of the Mills Blue Rhythm Band and received record label name credit for much of that time.

1st Recording Of “I Got Rhythm”
This Gershwin standard had been composed for the 1928 musical “Treasure Girl” （to be performed at a slower tempo）, but it was Ethel Merman who made it famous in the 1930 production of “Girl Crazy.” Also from the show was “Embraceable You,” which is on the Rich flip side
Nine days after the Columbia session, Rich recorded a different arrangement of “I Got Rhythm” with Smith Ballew on vocal which was released （under various pseudonyms） on OKeh and several of Columbia’s “dime store” labels

Earl Burtnett and His Los Angles Biltmore Hotel Orchestra – Low Down Rhythm（1929）

Jane Pursell （aka Jane Purcell） also sang and danced to this number on-screen in MGM’s star-studded “The Hollywood Revue of 1929,” an early talkie musical that is remembered for （among other things） Cliff Edwards’ performance of “Singin’ In The Rain.”

Edwards, along with Fred & Adele Astaire, introduced this George & Ira Gershwin standard in the Broadway musical “Lady Be Good.”

インドネシア国営アンタラ通信によると、同国西部アチェ州の警察は２８日朝、男性の体で生まれたが女性として生活しているトランスジェンダーの１２人を拘束したうえ、「男になる」ための「指導」として強制的に髪を短く切り、男性用の衣服を着させた。

しかしその後、ＣＮＮとのインタビューでは、１２人のいた美容室５カ所が高校生の男子らに無料のサービスを提供していたという通報や、周辺で薬物が乱用されているとの情報を受けた取り締まり作戦だと説明。ＬＧＢＴを狙ったわけではないと主張した。
国際人権団体のヒューマン・ライツ・ウォッチは３０日、この作戦を「悪い兆しだ」と批判する声明を発表。

１２人にしたら日本はさしづめ「天国」だろう。
インドネシアは信仰の自由を認めているけど、地域によって多数派が異なるのでこういうことにもなる。それでもいきなり石打ちの刑で殺されないだけ、他のイスラム国よりましかも。

　音楽ランキングの老舗オリコンが改革に乗り出す。小池恒社長が朝日新聞の取材に対し、今秋をめどに、ＣＤの売り上げやダウンロード購入数などを合算して一つの指標にまとめた複合ランキングを新設する方針を明らかにした。ＣＤの特典商法拡大や音楽の楽しみ方の多様化で、ＣＤの売れ行きだけで流行を追えない現状が背景にある。
　同社は昨年から、iTunesなどでのダウンロード数を集計した週間ランキングの発表を始めているが、複合ランキングは、ＣＤの売り上げにこれらの値を加味したものが基本になる見通しだ。対象は「シングル」「アルバム」の２部門で調整中という。
　小池社長は「アップルミュージックやスポティファイなど近年利用者が増えている定額制音楽配信サービス（インターネット上の聴き放題サービス）での曲の再生回数も加味する方向だ」とも話し、週間での発表を検討している。

若い世代はもうダウンロード専門だね。どこまでリアルな数字に肉薄できるか。それが出来なけりゃオリコンなぞいらぬという話にもなる。

　フランス西部のアングレームで開かれた「第４５回アングレーム国際漫画フェスティバル」（２５～２８日）で、漫画家の楳図かずおさん（８１）の作品「わたしは真悟」が、永久に残すべきだと認められた漫画に与えられる「遺産賞」を受賞した。同フェスティバルは欧州最大級の漫画祭で、日本人の同賞受賞は、水木しげるさん、上村一夫さんに次いで３人目。

この人の恐怖漫画はこの齢（とし）になってもコワくて正視できません。いやホント。

　東芝が経営合理化を理由に３月末で降板する国民的アニメ「サザエさん」の新スポンサーに、インターネット通販大手アマゾンジャパンやベビー用品専門店の西松屋チェーン、大和ハウス工業が決まったことが３０日、分かった。日曜日の夜に家族がそろって楽しめる人気番組で、いずれも提供企業に加わることでイメージアップなどの宣伝効果を期待している。
　入札が行われ、１０社近くの参加企業から選定された。
