Patti Page – And So To Sleep Again(1951/09)
orchestra conducted by Jack Rael
シングル “One Sweet Letter” のB面。
2度目の引用。

Here was the last of six top-10 hits that Patti gave us in 1951…all of them included in this collection. This post is of the original hit single mix, which features two-voice harmony on the initial three notes of her cold opening, followed by the four-voice main event. On one or more issued Patti Page CD compilations, a slightly different augmented mix of “And So To Sleep Again” was substituted which used four-part harmony from the opening note (a similar discrep occurred throughout decades of “Tennessee Waltz” reissues).

歌入りバージョン。

recorded in NYC April 9, 1942
A #1 best-seller for Harry James in 1942. the tune had been written in 1930 as “By The Sleepy Lagoon” by well-known British orchestral composer Eric Coates, with lyrics by Jack Lawrence added in 1940.

Tommy Dorsey and his Orchestra – By The Sleepy Lagoon(1942 the string version)

recorded June 17, 1942
Here is one of the more interesting and under-reissued Dorsey instrumentals, laden with a string section and recorded at the same session as the also quite lush-sounding Sinatra vocal hit “In The Blue Of Evening.” Setting this apart from the regular TD releases was Victor’s unusual decision to issue it on a Red Seal label, an honor generally reserved for the more “serious” classical and light classical performers on their roster. On the flip side was a similarly concert-styled arrangement of Charles Dawes “Melody,” known to more recent generations as “It’s All In The Game.”
Though the band had also recorded “Sleepy Lagoon” three months earlier without strings, that particular track remained unissued for a number of years, eventually popping up in various Readers’ Digest collections.
