This 1936 song hit turned out to be one of the most durable copyrights left behind by famed songwriter Billy Hill, with later popular versions by Kitty Kallen (1954), The Bachelors (1965), and Dino in’67.

Note the alto sax acrobatics by Harry Terrill, who continued doing them for several more years as the familiar musical signature for the band of Mitchell Ayres. Ayres was Jack Little’s violinist and eventually took over leadership of his band.
These lyrics were composed by none other than iconic author/poet/critic/screenwriter Dorothy Parker, with music by Ralph Rainger. This most successful tune from the score of “The Big Broadcast Of 1936” (released 9/35) was sung onscreen by Bing Crosby, whose Decca recording also won the sales competition.
